How to waste a Sunday and give zero figs

I’m not one to waste my time, unless it’s on worries, I waste a great amount of time thinking about things I have no control over…Sunday I decided to fig it (that’s my preferred term for now) and do nothing, think about nothing and just exist.

These are six ways I turned my brain off and decided to take a much needed break from my life

Old-school tips for going green

You guys know that I’ve been going green for a while now…instead of just giving up all my worldly possessions and living off the land I’ve been trying to make a few life changes (like Aidan’s party) and just live greener you know. Like the difference between refusing a drinking straw in a restaurant VS only drinking water from streams using my hands (kidding not-kidding).

I decided that I would share some of the ways I’ve (we) have been trying to live more consciously , starting with these old school methods.

How to make no-sew fabric loot bags

So what would make a sane human being make fabric  loot bags? I mean you can walk into any party store and buy plastic ones for a few bucks. You could use buckets or boxes and continue to live like someone with an actual job and an array of things to do.

BUT, I have set out to give Aidan a reduced waste eco-friendly party (as much as possible) and dammit that is what I am going to do.  So in come these reusable loot bags. They reduce waste considerably and act as a little take home too…WIN WIN, also they are no-sew so a third WIN for mommy.

How to get the most out of SA public holidays

As someone with a flexible work schedule, you would think I wouldn’t care about SA public holidays. “Aren’t your holidays when you make them Eleanor?”
NO! and I haven’t had a real break since mid 2016 so don’t test me. I want to be googling return flights to Cape Town with the intention of hopping onto a plane and not just helping my technophobe aunt book a flight. But for that to happen I need some careful planning.

I also need money, but first things first, how can I organise my life and my husbands in a way that we are actually off at the same time and that he, as a government employee who actually gets SA public holidays off, can make the most of his leave days…For that I have collaborated with Travelstart to share some not so secret secrets.

Tricks to getting glammed up – out of your handbag

I’m not sure why I thought of doing a glammed up post today. I sure am not looking super glam , but the thing is, if I had to I could. No I am not just being full of myself, this is a time tested “template” which I figured I’d share because, I’m a sharer like that.

First the back story. I live “out of town” by “out of town” I mean a good drive in and out to the office every day. So when I was a lifestyle reporter (and even now as a blogger) going home to get dressed up for a function would mean too much time and hassle (also petrol is expensive) , because of this I learnt to get glammed up in places like, mall bathrooms, the back seat of the car and even an abandoned office. What used to be a clumsy hope and prayer situation has been fine tuned and these are my tips.

Why would you need these tips? Because you never know when you need to be glammed up in a pinch, that’s why
