16 months already?!?

Aidan is 16 months today- just this weekend someone asked me how old he was and I had to do the math in my head (I can’t do math, in my head or otherwise) and it made me realise I haven’t done an update in ages so here goes. . .

APPEARANCE:  I actually don’t know his height and weight – bad mom, sis on you – up until very recently I thought of him as a shorty (like his mom) but people commenting things like…”sheesh what do you feed him”, “you are telling me he is not two yet”, “what a big kid” , make me think otherwise – his dad’s genes are certainly making an impact.

PERSONALITY: He is the friendliest most open kid. Socialises very well (breaks my heart that other kids often don’t socialise all that well with him, that sad “mommy why wont they play with me” look breaks me every time) He is super busy, and babbles non stop it’s like he runs on solar energy and we are in a desert, NO JOKES

HE CAN NOW:  Run, well he thinks he can. He also understands what we say pretty well, so you can tell him to do things like “bring mommy the remote” and “don’t lick the cat” . . .  his vocab improves daily…it is so cute to hear his little phrases. “Don’t going Daddy” (his grammar stinks, hehehe)

LOVES: torturing the poor cat, I found some of his toys in a tree so I think this cat is set on revenge…he actually used Aidan’s play area as a toilet after Aidan tried to hit him with a chair…Don’t worry SPCA I stopped it immediately after watching Aidan run after the cat with a plastic chair for a leetle bit it was sooooooooo funny, I mean it wasn’t funny at all

DISLIKES: Eating and sleeping – This has not changed!!!! he doesn’t eat or sleep….solar energy I tell you
MOM:  planning for his first day of daycare….oooooh I see tears on the horizon – Aidan might be a little sad too

My extra long weekend in pictures :)

Rob and I took half of last week off…we were scheduled to be off to East London but our plans fell through 🙁 but on the up side we got to spend some extra time with Aidan which is always great and turns out we both really needed the rest, leaving home at 6 and returning at 6 the eve can take it’s toll on a person…

Aidan and I got messy outside – his favourite
We took him out for lunch, he doesn’t think baby seats are all that appealing
I turned his door into a chalk board
he eats chalk – so annoying

I tried my hand at knitting-the bow I did a while ago

But  I just had to attempt a scarf for him
We went to Sam’s 2nd birthday – oh how time flies

His creative parents did everything themselves…Sooo much cuteness

Playing with the birthday boy

A de-constructed fruit skewer and popcorn make for an interesting snack

cupcakes with daddy – who am  I kidding Aidan doesn’t eat cupcakes

Someone got a new leather jacket from his aunt Mandy
– also someone got his first real scar from falling off the front step

At Gran’s house (Rob’s mom) Outside is the best side

My cousin’s (from left) Che-lynn, Ronethea and Revinia (who is not tech my cousin but might as well be)
had a crafts and wine day…yeah us
crafting

frozen berries beat ice every time

oh and I got my nails did 🙂

The “Wonders” of motherhood

I’ve often heard people talk about the wonders of motherhood and I think I finally “get it” I know why it is referred to as the wonders of motherhood

Because I often

– Wonder when I will get to decide my own bedtime again
– Wonder if I will ever get my body back
– Wonder what the mystery stain on my clothes are
– Wonder why someone would turn their nose up at my cooking but happily eat play dough
– Wonder why the cat is afraid of my one-year-old
– Wonder if I will ever be able to leave the house on a whim again
– Wonder when he got so heavy
– Wonder if babies don’t come with mute buttons
– Wonder why I need to pick little stones and sticks out of his hair at night…

– mostly Wonder how I ever lived without my little busy body

LOVE THIS KID TO THE MOON AND BACK!
Soooo blessed

Weekend in pictures…PLAYDATE FUN!!!

Our Moms Group met up this weekend 🙂 we had a blast and what made it extra special is that we also celebrated a new baby joining our group with a baby shower!!!!
Our host upped the fun by bringing in the super talented  Liezel Jacobs from Music&Me to interact with us which was quite a hit….She does sing-along, dance-along, crafts and story time with the kids – which is a great addition to any party – we even got to create a keepsake to take home

We all had a blast and even though the kids still have pretty short attention spans (walking off in the middle of dance routine leaving us to “head, tummy, knees and toes” all by ourselves) they thoroughly enjoyed it…
Aidan especially enjoyed the crafting (which the rest of the moms tease us about because apparently we are soooo used to these things)

Here is our day in pics:

LYNDALL’S SHOWER!

My beautiful and funny yet so sarcastic you don’t know if you want to hit her or hug her, friend Lyndall

Our layout – we so fancy if you give us time

it’s a boy in case you didn’t guess
our host is a baker too, who knew

100% sugar cocktails, hehehe – candyfloss in a cup FTW

PLAY TIME:

These two have a love/hate relationship, always so excited to see each other then they don’t interact, hehe

Yongama always ready for a photo

always, hehe (Maison, chilling like a boss)

Jude and Riley, “cooking” up a storm

CRAFT TIME:

Please note miss photogenic, Gia (soon to be big sis) in the pool

happier times before Yongama decided painting was not for him

Gia, poser like her momma… Twins in the background waiting for their turn

Aidy and me, apparently we are sooooooo used to these things

Aidan got the finger painting memo wrong – you are not supposed to paint your fingers, or toes for that matter

finished crafts
After this picture I realised Aidan was trying to open glitter to “tase”
this kid is gonna poop an ornament one day, I swear
If you want to contact Liezel yourself you can do so through her fb page  Music&Me  or even Email Her

Nice girls don’t use the P word

So as it turns out I’ve been doing my child a disservice with my own hangups.
Allow me to explain; When I bath Aidan I usually hand him a sponge and ask him to wash his face, his hands, his tummy and so on.
It helps him learn to clean himself and at the same time he learns body parts. But last night when I asked him to wash his bum, he went for his penis.
This made me realise I don’t actually say the word penis to him, so to him that whole general area is his bum. It is all so strange, I can say vagina vagina vagina but I feel soooooooo awkward when I say the word penis.
Haha, what kind of mom blushes when teaching basic anatomy?
Articles like this one advocate using the correct name for genitals because it is said to empower kids.
It is also believed that sexual predators would not be comfortable with the proper words so you would know something is up when your child suddenly uses made up names.
It’s all good and well and I always figured I could do it. I never thought of myself as much of a prude, but apparently I am. The deafening silence I feel inside my own head every time I try to teach him this word attests to this.
Also,in the interest of honesty, I must admit,  the thought of changing a boy’s nappy did kinda freak me out at first…”but but but he is a boy!!!”
I feel like such a silly person…My friend’s daughter can proudly proclaim that she has a “gina” and her twin brother a “piem” so actually I’m being beat by someone under 2 because pronunciations aside she is well on her way to being “empowered” with proper words.
My mother was never shy with saying the V word, maybe that’s why I don’t have a problem with it, she never had much call to get me to say the P word though so that could be why I have this mental block – I don’t know, what I do know is that it is waaaaay more awkward than it should be.
I don’t want him to have issues, but for that to happen I need to get over my own issues…maybe I will start by calling it a P work my way up letter by letter *blush*

What do you teach your kids?
