How to make a “pictionary like” game

family fun

For many people this time of the year is all about family fun. One of the things that has always meant family fun to me is BOARD GAMES! I love getting together and having a laugh over a game board.
I was looking for a board game that would be fun for the whole family and thought PICTIONARY!!!
But then I couldn’t find the game in store and I didn’t want to brave the malls for too long so I came up with my own version… It’s not the same but it will do. In fact I loved how it turned out so much that someone will be getting this under their tree on Friday 🙂

Foodie Fri-Dae Quesadillas!!!

Davene is back and today she is sharing a recipe filled with my favourite ingredients, mushrooms, avo and corn!!! YUM
cheesy-quesadillas
Cheesy quesadilla’s [serves 4]
8 corn tortilla’s
250g of corn (boiled)
1 packet of bacon (cooked in water preferably),diced.
2 large avocado’s mashed & seasoned as desired
200g of grated mozzarella
200g of grated cheddar
100g of feta cheese
6 sliced mushrooms, fried in 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Olive oil
Method.
In a pan.  Sauté the tortilla wraps on both sides one by one.  Pre-heat the oven at 210 degrees.  Once all the tortillas are all sautéed, spread the avocado evenly, not too generously across the surface of the tortilla. Distribute bacon, mushroom& corn evenly to the one half of all the tortillas.  Do the same with all 3 cheese, cover with the other side of the tortilla. Half every folded tortilla once and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.  Bring the temperature of the oven down to 180 degrees. Put it in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven & serve immediately.

Foodie Fri-Dae (Spinach and mushroom omelette)

Omelettes are awesome!!! and Davene is awesome for sharing her favourite omelette recipe with us. I’m not sure when it started, but I really love omelettes. It’s also great for making a meal with what you have left in the fridge 😉

Spinach & Mushroom Omelettes

Serves 1. Tip: Multiply the ingredients depending on how many people you’d like to serve

WHAT YOU NEED

– ¼ bunch of spinach, lightly shredded by hand
– 3 eggs (I prefer removing two of the yolks as it’s less fattening.  You can leave it if you — prefer). gently whisked and seasoned.
– 5 mushrooms sliced
– 4 tablespoons of olive oil
– 6 shavings of mozzarella cheese or ¼ cup of grated mozzarella cheese
– Seasoning (I used Ina Paarmen’s Chilli & Garlic)

TIP: Unless you know your way around a pan really well, I’d advise you use a non-stick pan for this

METHOD

In a large pan, add two tablespoons of olive oil and allow it to heat up.  Add spinach in one half of the pan & mushrooms in the other half. Add seasoning.  Stir as necessary.  When mushrooms are soft and spinach is ready.  Remove from pan.  If either the mushrooms or spinach sticks to the pan, wash the pan thoroughly before frying the egg.  If not, it’s not necessary.  Add the remaining olive oil and allow it to heat up.  Ensure the entire base of the pan is covered. Add the egg and put on the lid.  Once all of the egg is cooked, flip the egg over and add the mushrooms & spinach to the one half of the egg.  Add the mozzarella and cover with the other half of egg.  Put the lid on for a minute then remove omelette and plate it.

Make a snow-less snowball fight kit

I made a snowball kit and it’s a blast! I love making gifts for Aidan. I love that it’s something only he has and that I can put extra love into it without breaking the bank. He has a thing for hand made presents, he gets super excited “You made that just for me” so I’m going to exploit that while I can (before he wants the latest consoles and things)

snowball
Last year I made him STOCKING FILLERS which were really quick and easy and lasted him most of the year.

He has a thing for the movie Frozen (That craze just isn’t dying out hey) but all the frozen toys are either ridiculously girly or ridiculously pricey and although I don’t limit him when it comes to WHAT HE PLAYS WITH  I thought why not go out of the box and make him something “frozen related” instead. So I came up with this snow ball fight kit.

“First Christmas” ornaments for kid to make

So it’s Aidan’s first Christmas, no I’m not suffering from amnesia, I know he is almost three and we haven’t only recently become Christian, so that statement is technically false… It’s his first Christmas in the sense that it is the first time he is able to understand and verbalise his interest in Christmas.

He is mesmerized by the trees and décor in the shops and he is very interested in the story of Christmas which makes it the perfect time to share our beliefs with him.

Rob and I believe in God and our spiritual relationship is very important to us but we also believe that there are many ways to serve God (no one way is the only and ultimate-don’t stone me for that, thanks) and for that reason we research and respect other religions and want to share that belief with our kid.

Even so, we believe it is very important to share the story of the birth of Christ with Aidan so I’m desperately looking at ways to share this with him in a fun informative way.

He is a deep thinker and I do not want to confuse him. He already asked “Why does Father Christmas bring presents and not the wise men like in the story”… so ja, there’s that – he is tricking me up at the age of 2 people!!!

Here are some Christmas Crafts I found on the net… I’m considering doing one for every night of advent (because I’m high) a little ornament every night is sure to go down well with my little crafter and next year I will try this ADVENT STORY which seems amazing 🙂
