Grey Magic…my first attempt at a book a month.

Grey magic is done and dusted!

No I didn’t join a coven (not since that awkward phase in High school anyway). I just finished the latest offering by JT Lawrence (a signed copy nogal, just so you know I’m like cool and stuff).

book review

It took me forever! Since my life became pretty much controlled by outside forces (a three year old and a demanding work life) I haven’t had the time or attention span to read for the past two years.

But I finished Grey Magic in two months and now I’m aiming to do a book a month… below I will tell you how one lucky reader can get a copy of next month’s book…but first…

Friday Favs

For my second Favorite Friday post I decided to use same basic format as last week, a beauty product, food and something useful around the house.
My pictures are rather shoddy and I hang my head in shame, but I lost the pictures I took before and had to compromise with phone pictures taken early this morning…. THIS WEEK I LOVE

Kangol Xtras ShimmyShimmy Nail polish remover wipes

I have tried the nail polish remover wipe thing before and EVERY TIME it was a big mess and I have had to use half the pack just to remove one hand and even then your fingers get all stained in the process, that is if the wipes don’t dry up first. But I have to say THESE WIPES ROCK! There are a bunch of wipes (I’m guessing 50 – I didn’t count) in this air tight container (which keeps wipes moist) and all you need is one wipe per hand, which sounds like a gimmick BUT IT WORKS! No more fussing with nail polish remover bottles and cotton wool, all you do is take one wipe and dab it on each of the fingers of one hand, give it a second and start wiping. Before you know it your nail polish is removed…I use a third one for good measure but it’s really not necessary (unless you are like me and sometimes go overboard with the amount of coats of polish you use) I love this stuff and keep it in my handbag for emergencies…it doesn’t smell strongly either so if you have to discreetly fix yourself up you can 😀 (R39 at Truworths)

Nestle Aero Caramel

I’m obsessed with the chocolate caramel pairing these days and would like to call it pregnancy cravings, but then I would be lying. I’m always obsessed with something chocolaty… I found this when I was looking for Caramello bears and the Aero Caramel bar was the closest thing I could find and I have been hooked ever since, the aerated chocolate paired with creamy caramel is a definite winner and I can’t get enough of the stuff which probably isn’t a good thing (205kcal per serving) This is seriously my favorite snack right now! (R8 at about everywhere)

Air Scents reed diffuser

Reed diffusers are nothing new but this brand has me hooked. It doesn’t only look great (like it forms part of your decor) it lasts super long!!!!! We got ours about 4-5 months ago I KID YOU NOT and as you can see by the picture if only needs to be replaced now. Rob has chronic bronchitis so I try to keep the house free of anything that could send him into a coughing fit, we also both suffer from frequent bouts of sinusitis which means aerosol air refreshers are a big no no! And this seems to be the answer. We got a Sandalwood scent for the bathroom and Vanilla for the lounge LOVED both (R40 PnP)

First Friday Favourites. . .

So I have decided that every second Friday I would do my (Friday Faves) basically three things that make my life so much easier… starting this week  🙂

This week’s faves:

1.       Garnier BB cream

Where have you been all my life? In Asia I’m guessing as I believe that  is where the blemish balm (BB) concept originates. I don’t wear make-up usually but with pregnancy I have needed something to make me look less drab and blotchy and I must say, LOVE IT!!! It’s supposedly a miracle cream with SPF and healing properties, but to me it’s really just a super tinted moisturizer that is not unnecessarily thick like many tend to be and actually leaves your skin feeling soft and not heavily made up at all! And you look just a little more laminated. Love this stuff
CON: It comes in three shades, light, medium and dark and not everyone is one of those
*got it at clicks for less than R100 I love less than a R100

2.      Cadbury Highlights Hot chocolate

I don’t know what voodoo magic makes something this deliciously yummy only 50 calories, but I approve, oh boy how I do approve. It’s rich and creamy and thick-YUM. Although you can have it without milk I add just a dash of skim, upping my calories to what? 60? SO WORTH IT! In love with it’s yumminess
CON: It’s summer now, they should come up with a cold version like nesquick, but this taste and calories

3.        Sistema Lunch Cube

Because it’s healthier and cheaper to take lunch to work, Rob and I have been trying it out, which means random containers and annoyances, but this lunch cube seriously cuts out that problem! On one side it has two compartments and then there’s a flatter (perfect for sandwiches) side. It seals pretty tightly but when foods are slightly over powering in flavor I do still use foil and plastic baggies…just in case. Today mine has a roti in the sandwich compartment, a delicious mince and chickpea curry (Rob made last night) in one of the little deep compartments  and a little baggie with highlights hot chocolate in the other. It makes lugging your food around much easier
CON: Could be a little bigger, would love to fit my yogurt in there too
