Tiny Superheroes and other Oh!Boy stuff

I thought I’d give you a little update on how Oh!Boy was doing
As you all (regular readers) know I started Oh!Boy last year to fulfil this dream I had of owning a “label”.
I wanted to do accessories for kids that were unique and handmade, something you couldn’t find in every second shop.

Since starting I have been blessed to be featured on some amazing sites such as:

Using Aidan as my muse I started out doing things like snoods, bibs and pj pants. This past Christmas  I did a lot of Christmas bags and my heart nearly exploded with joy from the knowledge that kids from various parts of South Africa would be opening an Oh!Boy Santa Sack on Christmas morning!!!

As the business grows I find that what I really love is custom gifts. Small batch or once off items that are as unique as the kids I am making them for 🙂

My favourite item right now are my little Superheroes…

A rag doll dressed to look like a little child dressed up as a superhero, all miss matched but adorable – you follow me?
I try to give the doll the hair and eyes and skin colour of the recipient (as far as my material choices allow me) and can even make them using a favourite item of clothing.
The idea came about when one of Aidan’s friends took a doll away from him and told him “boys don’t play with dolls” That irked me because you guys know my stance on Aidan and toys.
So I decided to make him his own doll for Christmas.

And it was love at first sight:

Although my first dolls have been boys, I can easily make them for girls too, because who doesn’t want a miniature superhero version of themselves?

Here are some of the other gift options I have been working on…
To end off thank you so much for all your support guys 🙂 It means the world! and remember the name Oh!Boy when you are looking for a special little gift for the prince or princess in your life.

Who wants to win genuine leather accessories

I  have some great news; starting this week Born Free Leather Crafts Kids accessories will be available through the Oh!BoyKids online store. To mark this occasion they are giving away a genuine custom made leather belt and arm band to one lucky toddler.

I was skeptical about having Aidan wear a real leather belt because he is two and do I really want to spend the money on real leather accessories for a toddler, but Born Free is real value for money and I only paid R110 for this super cute belt featured here.
It’s super comfortable, custom made and he isn’t flashing his nappy or monster undies quite as much.
He is a skinny kid so pants are always falling down! He loves his belt because it looks like daddy’s (Born Free actually specialises in adult accessories but will now be offering kids belts and arm bands through Oh!Boy)

Oh!Boy…It starts

Painted bow ties in kiddies and baby sizes

I usually have crafts/DIY on a Wednesday but today is different… If you were looking for a craft I was featured on Thingstodowithkids  making busy bags so do check it out….

I don’t have a craft today, but what I do have is great news…
MY ONLINE STORE GOES LIVE ON MONDAY…
I’ve been really busy making things for my new online store Oh!Boy and it’s crunch time:)
Oh!Boy is an accessories line for little boys, because when I first got pregnant I felt there was not too much in the way of “quirky and different” when it came to little boys things… everything was very plain or girl orientated and the very trendy things are so popular and far in between that your kid inevitably looks like everyone else…
I started making things for Aidan and people often ask me about his bow ties, scarves and hats so that’s what I’m offering as a start…
Hand painted bow ties
Quirky printed bow ties
Snoods/eternity scarves
And peak beanies
…….at the moment my office/craft studio is constantly busy with me sewing, painting and don’t forget freelance writing…it’s been crazy but I am loving it 🙂

*Please wish me luck! and order! okay? I’m counting on you 🙂

don’t you just LOVE the packaging, candy jars 🙂
Two of my favourites
My craft desk at any given moment… Organised chaos I promise (I have a separate writing desk, but sometimes things overlap)
So many possibilities
