Pudding for Breakfast…chia recipes

I know I’m fairly late to the Chia phenomenon, but uhm why did no one tell me about this?!

chia recipe
I’ve seen it on many a instagram feed and thought I would try it out…and DELICIOUS!!!

It’s supposed to be filled with protein and omega 3, which is good, but for me the real benefit is that it is said to help with insulin resistance which I suffer from.
I know, I know, there is always a seed or a berry that is said to help… and I’m not usually into fads, but this is so yum and actually keep hunger at bay so I say why not????Also it’s way cheaper than the other “superfoods”, like I don’t need to take out a loan for this like I often feel I should with quinoa

here is how I eat mine….

Moving fearlessly forward…The story of Neo

Today’s No Fear Just Faith piece is by my friend Neo, we became friends when I was the reporter charged with showing her (the intern) around. I think I annoyed her at first and she found me too chipper, I grew on her (I always do hahahaha) and now even though she moved away we make a point of keeping in touch… She has a very interesting way of looking at life, jump in with both feet, sort of thing, here is her story…

I have always been fascinated with words. Whether it was writing those (now) cringe envoking love poems in high school, reading until the early hours of the morning or listening to how and the way that people speak. So it is quite befitting that I was “saved” by words that I overheard (hey, I’m a journalist, I overhear everything) in a conversation between two of my ex colleagues at the coffee making station.
What I heard wasn’t mind blowing or the next best selling self-help book idea but its brilliance is in its simplicity.
The conversation went like this: “You should really try some low fat milk…it’s healthier to drink”. And my colleague responded: “Life is far too short for low fat milk my dear”. That conversation sparked an idea in my brain that has become the basis of how I choose to live my life. Let me explain. I live what I call the “Full cream milk, full cream cheese and the skin on the chicken please” life. This may sound like a disaster for my health but in actual fact, it has nothing to do with food.
You see, in the short 27 years of life that I have lived, I have survived countless sexual assaults and attempted rapes at the hands of men and boys who I knew and some of whom were trusted friends and relatives. I’ve also survived a few suicide attempts when I was a kid of hardly 13 years old. (No don’t “aww” yet, that’s not the best part of the story). But this is the best life – I think – God could have ever given me. Too much harder and I would not have survived and too much easier, and I would not have had the determination to make something of myself. I digress, however.
The Full Cream Life is mainly based on realising that fear as we know it, is nothing but a figment of the thoughts we have…it is not physically real (no really, think about it) and quite frankly, I refuse to be scared of something that does not pose a physical danger to me. Honestly, the feeling of fear annoys me because it cripples your mind from making sound rational decisions and prevents you from taking opportunities presented to you by God.
The Full Cream Life is fuelled by faith. Not mountains of faith but just enough…the size of a mustard seed even (see what I did there? Hehe). I have the greatest faith that God’s plan for my life – as messed up a start as it had – is the mirror of perfection. It truly is. When one realises that God will never see you as a failure or without use, there is NOTHING that can stop you from achieving your dreams.
I would love to say that despite everything that happened to me, I went on to become some big shot but no. My story is not a unique one. In fact, if you drive down to your local township right now, pick out a young girl and ask her to tell you her story, you’ll probably hear the same thing. I grew up in a four room house with about 11 other people. No, reread that. Not a four bedroom house, a four room house. It was cramped, there was no privacy, there was no time for one on one time with my breadwinner mommy and it was tough. But at the age 27, I can proudly say that I have had to reset my dreams because I have already achieved the old ones I had by having faith in my God given Full Cream Life.

Now, dear reader, what would you do if you had no fear?

Sewing kit in a jar (DIY)

It occurs to me this morning that I never did part two in my DIY Gift Post, uhmmmm so here is is, better late than never hey? It;s crazy easy!

This is how to make a sewing kit in a jar 🙂

What you need:

Apart from the Jar, you will need a basic sewing kit and felt 🙂
These are are every grocery store..

What you do:

Measure and cut felt to go around bottle,
I added a little heart just because it is so darn cute
The felt acts as a pin cushion as well as a place to put your scissors

Glue the felt down, leaving space to shove scissors in

Glue the needle holder to the top of the jar
Fill the jar with everything else from the kit, usually just cotton and a measuring tape
put scissors through the felt loop and ENJOY 🙂

Kid’s are non refundable, right?

To whom it may concern…
I am writing to bring to your attentions a few aspects of my product which are not at all as advertised.
I know that most warranties expire after two years so this is by no means an attempt to acquire a replacement, instead I would just appreciate if you were to revise your advertising campaign.
Firstly thank you for the item, it is more beautiful than I could ever imagined…There are a few inconsistencies though.
According to the advertising (which played mostly in my head while pregnant) the item in question should be interested in a variety of foods.
I had every intention of making bento boxes and smoothies(just check my pinterest feed) I was under the impression we would chat over milk and biscuits and he would beg to lick the spoon when I bake…that feature is yet to kick in. In fact I think you might have shipped me a solar powered version.
Secondly our shopping trips are nothing like advertised (again mostly in my head) there is no strolling through the shops in heels as a well behaved tyke holds my hand and I push a trolley filled with organic goodies.
In fact just yesterday I had said tyke half way up the shelves in Clicks (I kid you not),chanting “I like to climb up and up” I picked him up (or down in this case) and had him flailing under my arm as he attempted to lick my hand because apparently his tongue tasted funny. This was a step up as reprimanding him is usually met with blowing spitty raspberries or playing dead.
I put him down and he made a giggly run for it… This glitch comes about at least twice a day and was not advertised…The product is much faster than expected, also way more slippery and much dirtier.
The walking setting seems to have been replaced by running and talking by screaming.

He doesn’t seem to have the built in stand there and be quiet feature either…He insists on greeting everyone everywhere we go…He had a melt down when someone asking for food at our door didn’t give him a fist bump (cried for like 15min because “uncle didn’t say hello”). Don’t get me started on the “sads” brought on my shop keepers not engaging in conversation and not accepting his clumsy 2 year old help…”I fix,I fix” , “Aidy can”, “Aidy help” …
This product is not at all what I expected, but if you try to take it from me I will chase you down with the speed developed from chasing him around and beat you down with the strong arms acquired from wresting him down 🙂
… feeling silly this Tuesday have an awesome day all

Veggie tots…meat free lunch ideas for toddlers

My son is vegetarian, apart from tasting some biltong at around 10 months he really doesn’t do anything meat based, fish and poultry included…in fact he tells me last night, “Mommy ate a fish *big shocked, you realise I have a pet fish right, eyes* I don’t eat fish okay”

making cheese crackers

what is this marshmallow bussiness

And naturally it’s okay with me, I don’t eat all that much meat myself, but I’m not a vegetarian, just ask the sushi and lasagne.
I feel like it started textural, he didn’t want to chew it since it’s not crisp like crackers (his all time favourite) but it’s grown into, I can’t eat the animal you let me feed at the farm the other day or ask me what sounds it makes, A cow goes moooo mommy not nom nom nom.

Meat aside he is a rather annoyingly picky eater…(I spoke to Dr, dietitian and nutritionist, none of their tips have helped thus far…but I keep on trying, I also have books given to me by friends who know I worry about his eating)
This is his”never struggle to get him to eat these things” meal plan
– oven baked chips (don’t think you are going to confuse him by giving him chips of any other vegetable)
– yogurt (he will spit out fruit pieces so don’t even attempt)
– provita with cheese spread (trying to replace cheese spread with cottage cheese, wish me luck)
– grapes and apples
– juice (I try to make these veg based)  when in a hurry I use the Solal 24-in-1 he likes it, well he will have half a glass and that’s good enough for me
– popcorn (we bought a air popper and he will get bowl and everything ready himself)
– chocolate (preferably dark Lindt stolen from his mother)
– rice cakes (pnp has nice ones I can pass off as chips)
– raisins
– dry fruit sticks
*pizza, noodles, cupcakes, marshmallows – which most kids love – he hates that.

THIS IS WERE IT ENDS he doesn’t even do those pouches anymore 🙁

Here are some lunch ideas I want to try, PLEASE comment with ideas you might have…supper time he just gets small portion of what we have (it doesn’t go down too well, but we keep trying)

Kick out the store-bought, processed boxes and make these scrumptious homemade animal crackers instead!
