Remembering little lives lost

October is a lot of things…it’s pink month in aid of breast cancer awareness, it’s Ocsober to promote sobriety and even Rocktober in some places..
Although cancer and alcoholism are both issues close to my heart, this month means something else to us, it’s Pregnancy and Childloss month…A month to reflect on all the little ones who spent only a moment in their parents arms but a lifetime in their hearts.
On National childloss day, Oct 15th, we are urged to light a candle for our fallen angels…This project goes on around the world in an attempt to keep a light going across the globe  for 24 hours.
Although most parents aren’t quite as vocal as I am regarding child loss statistics show that there are a growing number of us greaving parents, so even if you personally haven’t lost a baby why not light a candle and remember someone who had their light put out too soon 🙂 I will be lighting not only for Logan but for the amazing women and their families I haven met on my journey

*on a different note I strongly believe in the power of prayer so please pray for me as I get my test results today.. it’s a third set of tests trying to pin point why I have been so sick lately. Seriously tying Aidan’s shoe feels like a 5km race. Everything exhausts me and I have had a headache for about a month now…I just want them to find something so I can deal with it…I don’t need easy just possible

Here’s hoping you Share Some Hope

So after a week of non blogging im back to remind everyone that it is not to late to share hope and feed some deserving kiddos…

Last month HERE I told you guys about the initiative run by Tony Ferguson Weightloss South Africa, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, The Dis-Chem Foundation and African Dynamics to fill some empty tummies.
Their plan to distribute up to 200 000 meals to hungry primary-school children across the country is still going strong which means you can still join in…

You can still help feed hungry kids
The Share Hope Campaign sees the partners donate a balanced, nutritious breakfast to a needy child for every Tony Ferguson Shake, Soup or full sized Munch Bar purchased from a participating Dis-Chem store between September and November.
The breakfast will be served in the form of a cereal packed with all the nutrients a growing child needs and only needs to be mixed with water for a filling meal…

You can still enter and win
You even stand in line to win one of four  R2000 vouchers monthly by just telling more people about the program…
All you have to do is go HERE and click share…

When I wrote this they had already fed 41408 children and with 57 days to go there is still time to help raise that amount….click HERE for more info

Experience life with Cassie and her ladybug

Today I’m featuring Cassie from Life with a Ladybug. She is mom to the cutest little girl!!! They makes me want to have a little girl and then Aidan tosses something in something and I think nah one is enough, hehe. I love her wit and honesty and often check in to see how she’s doing 🙂 you can too over HERE!

Tell us a little about your family…

My family is a little one, there is one 30 something adult human, one  Two year old Ladybug and one eight year old Furbaby.  We a girls only house and love every minute of it!
-What do you do when not blogging?
When Im not blogging Im juggling between being an HR Manager, a Correspondence Student, a Cook, a Cleaner, a Mom, an Toddler’s Entertainer,  a Guider, the Good Cop the Bad Cop, a Wannabe Runner, a DIY Enthusiast, a Sister and a Friend, all while honing my skills on becoming a future Super Hero.
-What made you decide to blog?
I have family scattered all over the world, from the far South in New Zealand to way up North in Alaska (at the moment).  My started during my pregnancy and it was a single platform where I could keep everyone updated.
–What was your concept behind the blog?
It changed a little over the last few years, originally it was to keep everyone updated, then it became therapeutic and then suddenly people started reading it.  Now its basically a platform where I can let people in to what its like being a single parent, and what its like in our world, while keeping the family updated as to what’s happening.
-Did you find yourself nervous at prospect of letting people into your life in this way?
I took the decision that I was never going to blog very personal things about our life, about us.  As a result, I blog under my nickname given to me by my sister at the age of 2 and I don’t use Ladybug’s real name.  I also don’t let in personal information like what school she is at, where I work or where we live.  There are some things that are meant to be for us only.
-Do you ever worry that your child will be like “mom why are you exposing my life?”?
My answer would be “ Aren’t you lucky I didn’t tell them about that time when you…..”
I do worry, but it all boils down to how personal you want to get.
-Does your family read your blog?
If they don’t I know where they live!! They love reading up on our adventures and misadventures.
-What do you hope to achieve through the blog?
Years and years of blackmail material to flash on a screen at Ladybugs 21st!
My blog is personal, I write about our life, what is relevant to us.  Along the way I have inspired, touched and reached people I never thought I would which is awesome.  But it really is an online memory bank for us to go through later in life.  If I inspire just 1 random stranger who is struggling through something that I have struggled with and I can show them that its OK that you can get through it, then I have achieved more than I ever dreamed of achieving.
-What do you think about the blogging culture in South Africa?
I think there are allot of people that are “bloggers” then there are the real bloggers.  Kudos to those that have made blogging awesome and to those that want to blog to get free stuff shame on you.
-What do you think makes for a “good blog”
Honesty, uniqueness and being differently like everyone else.  I enjoy blogs where someone is writing from their heart if it’s a personal blog, someone that has taken the time out to actually write honestly about something.
-How do you personally measure success in the blogging world

Im a small fry in the big bad blog world.   I blog because I enjoy it so I will never really “compete” in the blog world.

Heritage day inspired DIY t-shirt print :)

As I’m sure you guys know by now I will use ANY  excuse to craft something….
And Heritage day  has given me a perfect excuse to experiment with “t-shirt stencilling”.
Yes, it should be more South Africa than Africa, but this is the picture I had people! also the heart kinda points at South Africa so I got it covered…Oh and as a coloured person I have heritage from all over anyways, hehe…
Here is how to make your own African t-shirt, it’s so easy you will kick yourself!

1. You need fabric paint, a picture, contact plastic, a t-shirt, a sponge and scissors
2. stick the picture on the contact plastic and cut out (this creates a sticky stencil)
3. Cut out a little heart for the inside of the picture… stick down the stencils you have made
4. dip your sponge in fabric paint
5. paint on the stencil and wait for it to dry
6. Remove stencil and oooh and aaahhh over what you have created

Professional advice for the picky eater in your life…

Nothing changes your views on parenthood quite like being a parent!
I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be the mother of a picky eater…SERIOUSLY!
I had this archaic view instilled by my grandmother that children don’t have a say and that they should eat what is offered.
This view was then paired with my new age belief that if you make anything pretty enough it will be eaten-I even passed this advice on to my cousin who battles with her own strong willed picky eater…

My mom found my views funny but in true “Angie” style she let me do my own thing and bump my head if need be. So when I came back to her with tears in my eyes saying that I don’t know what to do with Mr “3 grapes and a provita”, she just smiled and said she understood as I only started eating around the age of 15 WHHHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT!!!!

See I have vague memories of everyone making a fuss every time I finished a plate of food. Seriously I could bring back an A on a test and it would be less of an achievement. It also explains why at every family function my portions are still pretty “kid sized” it’s a well known thing in my family that “Eleanor doesn’t eat” (WHY OH WHY hasn’t that message got to my fat bum!)

Anyway’s so you would think that I would be like “okay he will eat eventually” but I’m not, because along with praise and portion size I also remember passing out LOTS! being sent home from school, not being able to concentrate… I passed out so many times at one stage they thought I had a brain tumor. It was just anaemia paired with too little food and I don’t want that for my little guy.

I know my mom tried her best I even had separate meals, but I just didn’t have a healthy relationship with food and even sneakily threw food away – sorry mom…

In the interest of getting Aidan to have a healthier relationship with food, I started him on proper home made food from 6 months which he loved and ate with gusto…then he turned one!

I spoke to a professional Greta Williams from Nurture Naturally about getting my picky eater to eat…

Greta gave me the following advice, I’m putting it on as a jpeg so you can print it out and keep…

This is where we are on the list of things he eats:
– Squish Puree (the only way you get veg in)
– Thin cut oven baked chips
– Yogurt
– Provita
– Apples (he actually stole this from a friend’s kitchen once)
– Grapes
– Popcorn (this is his favourite thing in the world)
– mini Cheddars
– half a vanilla biscuit here and there
– dry toast
– dark chocolate
– flings/lightly salted lays

he drinks full cream milk, tea, water and the occasional fruit juice

See not the healthiest and apparently he is a vegetarian 🙁 everything else makes him physically run away or make himself vomit

How do you deal with a picky eater?

*Oh if you want to contact Greta you can over here www.NurtureNaturally.co.za and if you are in the PE area you can even order healthy kiddies snacks from her (she spoke at BabyBlogZA’s mommy breakfast)
