Curly girl , hair-spiration

On days like today when my curls decide it’s too cold to come out, I always toy with the idea of just throwing in the towel with this whole natural, wash and wear journey…maybe I should just get it straightened or do box braids. I know my dad will be sooooo happy (straightened not braided) he is not a fan of what he calls “my big messy hair” or “THAT” depending on his mood.

These are the days I have to look at inspiration and remember “the plan” and where I’m going with this…

This is where I am with the hair journey at the moment

Lessons from motherhood

Today I want to humbly apologise for any harsh judgements I might have made regarding unruly kids. Naturally  I would never voice my opinion out loud (my mother taught me better than that) but I won’t lie…I have looked at unruly kids in shops and restaurants and wondered why their mothers allowed that…*pause to laugh* ALLOW nogal! as if someone would allow their kid to embarrass them in a crowded shopping centre.
Being mother to a particularly busy one-year-old has taught me something very important…You can’t always control their behaviour, you can only control how you react towards the behaviour…My mom told me this about the “Mean Girls” at school and I think the concept translates nicely…
Your child WILL test you, he will insist on pushing the trolley in a crowded shop, scream to ride those R5 machines “one last time”  or grab your glasses off while you are trying to have a conversation with someone, the trick seems to be not to let them see you sweat.
My cousin simply walks away from her daughter when she decides to throw a tantrum, waits for her to finish and then calmly talks to her…Trying to reason with a toddler seems a little crazy, but it seems to work (for some kids not all…)
I’m well aware that asking Aidan why he insists on decanting his plate of chips onto his lap before eating makes me look like a loon, especially when his response is “chippy nom nom”  but I see it as opening the lines of communication.
Honestly I just want it to look like “I don’t condone such behaviour” when actually I’m just glad he is eating something…
Aidan is a handful…He can get out of practically any brand of feeding chair and end up on the table, he insists on walking over to other people’s tables and just standing their like a mini stalker and is only comfortable if he can take one shoe off and put the free foot next to his plate…
He is such a joy though and for now I can control him with a stern voice, a threatening look and some light bribery…The little free spirit teaches me so much and of all the things he has taught me humility is definitely pretty high on the list.

Fun things to do with little one…

I did some crafting with Aidy this weekend…old-school potato prints (half a potato use a knife to cut out a shape and use it as a stamp) Aidy loved the stamping and we ended up with two sheets of pretty nice looking “wrapping paper”.
Naturally he went into full on crazy-boy mode after a while though and started banging the potato on the table and trying to lick the paint off . . . it was fun while it lasted though.
He likes making things with me, he just has the attention span of a “Something with a short attention span – I cant think now”

It is so much fun watching him learn and create (and sitting still for second).. Here are some great activities I found online, dying to try them all…

animal matching // the activity mom (her site is full of great ideas)
this is a MUST!!!

Rainbow Salt Tray
This seems like a super idea but if the play snow incident taught us anything,
he will climb inside box and throw salt all over

Frog Spot: 2D Shape Puppets
Aidan will love these, he loves anything with eyes
Lilly loves a good cheerio necklace and she thinks she can help make it too - she sometimes can get one on ;)
This isn’t an activity per say…but seems like a brilliant idea
love the little bottles for little hands
And I do  have some extra bottles at home-must double seal so he doesn’t drink it

'100 Ways to entertain a toddler'. This Mom has fun (and funny) ideas to interest her toddler. She rates each with a grade to it's success. Good reference.
ooooh this looks like fun!!! spaghetti and oaties 🙂
but should I really blur the lines on one of the only things he eats
(oaties not raw spaghetti)

Happy Birthday Honey

Today is my friend’s daughters birthday… what makes this birthday different you might ask…Well:
My friend and I were pregnant at the same time actually due the exact same day this was in 2012.
But then Logan passed away and left room for so many emotions. I still remember her heavily pregnant standing under a tree at his funeral.
Today is that friend’s daughter’s birthday and at the back of my mind it will always tug at my heart strings, he should be here too, they should be playing together and things should just be different you know!
But at the same time she gives me this weird feeling of heart peace, like when I see her even if it is just a picture, I have a connection to him. I kinda know “okay this is the stage he would have been now” and that way he sorta lives on.
I know it sounds all kinds of self serving and strange, but a grieving heart is a selfish thing it looks for anyway to mend itself, to feel okay for a minute.
Her and Aidy have hit it off since their first meeting when he was still a “baby baby”. She automatically goes into big sis mode, too cute.
The little girl is stunning like her ex-model mom and a bubbly peoples-person like both her parents, she is such a joy to be around and although they are actually moving over the seas soon, I hope that she will always be part of my life…
I’m soooooooo cyber stalking them!!! “SKYPE ME SKYPE ME SKYPE ME, hehehe

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY!
