My favourite things:home edition

I’ve been asked to post some of my own home decor on the blog and thought now is as good a time as any – best time is after the cleaning lady visits Hehehe ……here are some of my faves in no particular order

1. This wall art is actually two unrelated stickers, I just thought it worked well together even though it was purchased two years apart. It is placed above a vintage piano which used to belong to Rob’s gran.

2. On our second anniversary Rob and I went to the Knysna area for a few days where we ended up visiting flee markets and such, I totally fell in love with this piece so Rob got it for me and even painted a section of our lounge ceiling black so my crystal beaded chandelier could stand out more, the piece was actually created as part of a community upliftment project in Sedgefield

3. Aidan’s room has featured on my blog before, but it would be so wrong to not include it on my list of favourites, his crib/cot has become more of a storage space lately as he prefers a toddler bed…will be updating his room from baby to toddler later this year.

4. (Top left in collage) this beautiful mosaic table top was a wedding gift, most things on the table are actually gifts or souvenirs, either from trips we took or trips taken by loved ones…

5. (Top right) here I have candles to light if I ever have something really big to pray about, Aidan’s foot prints are there too along with a box of memories of Logan. I used to have lots of things to remind me of him but the box is enough now…he is in my heart regardless.

6. (Bottom) that is my clock wall in tv room… I love clocks (u can see on my souvenir table that people know this about me and have brought me clocks from abroad) but as much as I love the look of clocks the ticking can drive you bonkers so only the really large one actually shows time while the others are stopped at significant times in our lives like when we got married or when Aidy was born) Aidan has a large wicker basket filled with toys in this room so it is almost  constantly a mess

How do you raise a gentleman

How are jerks made? Everyone knows a guy who just radiates “I’m amazingness”  a guy who bullys, badmouths and generally just thinks the sun shines out of his behind…how are guys like that made? And how can you avoid your precious Lil angel basically turning into a douce?
How can you ensure your kid knows he is special and amazing and can do anything with his life while remembering that he is in fact not better than everyone else and the world doesn’t owe him anything?
I want Aidan to respect his elders, to take care of those less fortunate, to have a good heart and basically NOT be full of himself…
I don’t want him to be a racist,a bigot, and quite generally an idiot.
I know that as his mom I don’t have full control of his personality but I guess I will just try to do my part, like not laugh if he makes fun of anyone else, not encourage him putting anyone down, I’ll try to make sure he knows a diverse set of people and not be afraid to reprimand him if I see him acting the fool.
Mostly I will just pray for him and try my best… luckily he has some great men, like his dad and mine, to look up to and that is a good start.

Happy birthday mom!

So blessed to have my mother,Angie, granted to us for another year.!
I remember when I was really little I used to cuddle up with her and try to sync up our breathing, I’d hold my breath and try to stop/start so we would be on same rhythm (weird I know) I think I just always felt like we were so different ,that if our breathing was at least the same I wouldnt feel so removed from her  (I was a very! Emo kid)  people would always remark how I am nothing like her. They would look at me and say things like, “nothing like her mother this one, maybe her dad,her gran or aunt but nothing like her mom”…sad when it was widely accepted (still is) that my mom is this beautiful, caring, talented, selfless person, but ofcourse I’m nothing like her ( gee thanx opinionated old ladies) anyway I always felt removed in someway and she never quite knew what to do with my opinionated,  emotional and rather dramatic self.
But things change and we have never been closer. My mom means the world to me and we are really birds of a feather! I see my love of reading, writing and crafting in her…not to mention sarcasm.
I think that like I used to stop/start my breathing so I could sync up with her, God has done that to our lives and synced us up though life’s challenges- a cool thought albeit pretty out there….

The reason for the season: EASTER more than chocolate bunnies

So Easter weekend is here. . . Funny thing is when you hear the word EASTER your mind immediately goes to chocolate bunnies, hot cross buns and pickled fish, well mine does. . . It should really be going to Jesus Christ’s love for us, a love so powerful he basically said, “You know all these people, even those not born yet, I’ll catch a grenade for  them.  Throw my head on a blade them, I’d jump in front of a train for them”…. well not technically seeing as I don’t pray to Bruno Mars, but Jesus straight up gave up his life (at the height of his fame and according to his pictures, at his physical peak)  he knew this was what was prophesized and he let people kill him, I mean he is the son of God if he didn’t want to die he could have done something about it I’m pretty sure.
But he knew he had to die to be resurrected (otherwise it wouldn’t be a resurrection more of a wake up call).
So basically Easter symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all. Easter is Jesus Christ’s victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him.

HAPPY EASTER PEOPLE,ooooohhhhhh how we will eat this weekend and gym next week

Playdough party favors: a quick how to

For Aidy’s party I opted to give out lil gifts instead of the traditional sweetie filled loot bags (most of the kids don’t really eat sweets anyway-energetic enough thanx) I wanted something that was usebale and fit the theme – oh and something that was fairly easy to make…. so enter they basic playdough jars

I bought some plastic honey jars and stuck toy farm animals on the lids (see picture) then I used the best ever no cook play dough recipe (with a dash of vanilla essence for great smellingness) and made a batch (I lie its like 5 batches-what was I thinking inviting 32 kids?) for extra cuteness and to make sharing into jars easier  (with the help of my cousin) I made the green basic playdough into little balls, add a thank you for coming tag and TADAH! cute little thank you gifts…
