So it’s Valentine’s day and I’m outchea talking about enemies of the heart by Andy Stanley.

Instead of going all red heart cut outs and lovey dovey messages I’m looking at the heart from a different perspective.

Laura from Harrassed Mom asked me to be part of her body positive campaign and initially I was reluctant because, if I’m honest with myself, I am not all that body positive . But it did remind me of how I let my lack of self confidence rob me of a special moment.

I recently, as in last month, turned down the opportunity to be my sisters bridesmaid. There is no weirdness between us we annoy and love each others as siblings do. She’s my little sister, I’ve known her since I was just about to turn nine and my mom insisted on bringing a third child into the home.
I’ve recently experienced significant “I can see your scalp buddy” hair loss and I’m shook. Having started on the creamy crack (relaxer) pretty young, I know all about hair breaking off and leaving unattractive patches but in all my (soon to be 33 years) I have never seen an actual bald spot on my head and it made me catch all kinds of feelings.

I remember standing staring at myself in the bathroom mirror with tears streaming down my face because “what the heck!” I’ve since calmed down and received advice from a beauty blogger, a homeopath, and a hair stylist…The advice below, but first a little on why I freaked the f out…
Imagine winning an R20 000 bursary for your child’s’ education!!!
School is expensive! There is the stationery, the uniform, the extra murals and that’s not even touching on the actual fees and the fundraising so you’d be silly not to be salivating at the idea of winning Woolworths’ Littleworld bursary competition.

Honestly, this is something I would LOVE to win. Aidan – readers of this blog might have noticed – is a very precocious child. He loves learning way more than I thought possible, just the other day he told me that he thinks its amazing that there is something to learn from everything you do and everyone you meet – even teachers, hahaha. Hearing those kinds of words from my 4-year-old means that education is always on my mind. I want to give him the best and let’s be real, that often means money money money, so winning some would come in pretty handy.
In need of a Valentine’s Day t-shirt? If you have a child whose daily schedule still includes finger paints or building blocks, I am going to guess yes. Schools are big on dressing for the occasion, which is usually red and white, but I decided to be a little extra this year, I ditched the red and white and made Aidan a Valentine’s Day t-shirt with a difference

What make’s it a Valentine’s Day shirt in my opinion is the big’ol heart nose and the fact that it is both the “animal he loves” as well as the “colour he loves” – you can use this technique and tweak it to suit the wearer.
When it comes to hair, being natural means something different to everyone, for me it means free of chemicals and heat and results in a large curly fro, but a blog reader has got me thinking…
