Make-up tutorial: Awesome Ombré lips.

Sorry for the late post, I usually like to get a post up every morning before 10am, but today was the first day of my “holiday” and my mom woke me with an awesome treat, she offered to pay for me to get my hair done, so uhm DUH I jumped up and went… I actually ended up having my hair did with Aidan playing lego on my lap…LIKE A BOSS,hahaha.
Any who it’s only when I got back that I realised my post didn’t auto publish, so here goes 🙂  Daring lippy courtesy of Ranique
MY LIPS DON’T COST A THING
Summer has just about arrived!
Colour is out!
And we’re ready for action!
All the Summer fun is waiting to happen…
Longer days and shorter nights!
For the perfect Summer you will need perfect lips!
Colourful lips!
And it need not cost a thing.
You can have sexy, sweet or romantic lips with items in your make-up bag without having to buy new lipsticks and glosses.
Let’s play with around with colour …LIP colour!
Today I share ways to create Ombré lips.

Ombré which in French simply means “shaded” is much easier then it sounds.
In fact, it’s a widely used term in the beauty world.
Nowadays we play with Ombré hair, clothes, decor etc.
So let’s take on the job of “shading” lips and lip colour!
Now Ombré lips can be achieved easily!
You can simply create, mix and blend colours as you please.
And guess what?!
If you’ve always wanted to style your favourite eyeshadow colour on your lips but couldn’t find the same shade lipstick… today is your lucky day honey!
Yes one of the techniques of creating Ombré lips includes using eyeshadow on the lip!
You can create Ombré lips using the following:
* lipliner and eyeliner + lip gloss
* 2 or 3 shades of lipstick+ lip gloss
* lipstick and lipliner +lip gloss
* lipstick and eyeliner + lip gloss
* lipstick and eyeshadow + lip gloss
* lipliner and eyeshadow +lip gloss
Three Ombré looks using lipstick, lipliner and lip gloss:
Add some balm before you start.
Outline your lips with a dark shade lipliner.
Then blend a lighter shade lipstick over the lip.
Take your liner again to ouline the shape of your lips.
Add lip gloss for a glossy finish.
Apply lip gloss carefully, so the colours don’t mix together otherwise you will lose the Ombré effect.
Add some balm before you start.
Then use your dark liner to outline the shape of your lips.
Then use your second liner to blend colour on the inner lip.
Add some gloss and pout!
Add some balm before you start.
Using a red lipliner,  outline the shape of  your top lip.
Then use a coral or orange tone lipliner and outline the bottom lip.
Use your index finger to blend some coral or orange eyeshadow on the bottom lip and a little on the inner top lip.
Add some gloss to finish off the lip.
And there you go!
In case the Ombré is a wee bit too much for you, you’ll maybe appreciate the matt lip.
Here below I demonstrate how you can set some matt lips with 3 items.
Lipliner, lipstick and blush.

With your Lipliner, lipstick and some blended blush on the lips you will have some pretty romantic matt lips.
THANK YOU  for taking time out to have a peak at the “Face Friday ” series and also for all the wonderful comments!

Let your daughter be her own designer with PrettiYou

So I found out about this AWESOME website!!!
You know those dress up dolls most of us had as kids? the paper ones? and these days on apps? well imagine if you could design an outfit, dress a doll, and then order the clothes!!!
Well now you can, a PE based company (I’m a proud NMB girl) is doing just!

Recently my niece Taylor (almost 6) and I got to order an item from their site, it was so user friendly and felt way more like a game than an online shopping website. The clothes look amazing too, and you know what, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like you would expect customised things to.

I interviewed Mandy Berning, the brains behind this concept, and here is what she had to say

Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Mandy Berning.  I am a wife and mom of 2 daughters (Jamie 10 and Ella 6).  My ‘other’ field of work is Industrial Psychology.  I have owned and run a business called Equinox for 14 years – we do psychological testing and Training for corporate clients.   My husband also owns his own business.  So I guess you could say we are Entrepreneurial J.  PrettiYou is a nice blend of being a creative mom and an entrepreneur J

The PrettiYou family

Where does this super cool idea come from?
Last December a friend and I were chatting about how limited the clothing choices were for tween girls and how it seemed the clothes were too grown up for girls over 10.  We were also moaning at how often you finally found something you liked but then they were out of stock in the size you needed!  I joked about starting a little clothing business ……….. and that was the seed planted right there.  9 Months later, PrettiYou was born.

Where does your business name come from?
Every little girl is Special and Pretty and needs to be reminded of that – that they are beautiful being themselves.  PrettiYou says you are pretty everytime you say it – its a good reminder!
How did you involve the designer and what is her responsibility?

Ane is our Fashion Designer, she is young and full of fantastic ideas.  Her responsibility is to provide us with an ‘inspiration’, a theme for a range and once that is approved to design not only the clothing but also the prints and appliques that will be offered.  These are veto’d by hubby and myself and ofcourse Jamie and Ella (and their friends) J  as we go along, until we have a fabulous range.  The spring range is designed from the inspiration of a girls tea party – A teaparty where the sun shines warm on faces. Where the air is full of the scent of Jasmine and the the sounds of laughter and friendship. Where whimsical birds, bunnies, deer and  owls are invited guests; macaroons and chocolate cake is a given and all is right with the world!.  Our winter range (sneak peak) will be inspired by ‘Then Enchanted Forest’ J

Any plans of expanding?

We have actually already expanded into offering smaller sizes.  So we now have size options for 2 – 14 years.
Lots of moms have approached me and asked if we would consider offering woman’s clothing with the same concept of designing your own.  Think its something we’ll look into next year (I know I love the clothing so much I have had them make a few things to my size!  Seems only fair to spread the joy J )

What are your dreams for your business?
I dream of it being something that brings a bit of joy to whoever comes into contact with us.  Anyone who goes online, who buys from us, receives a specially wrapped package or voucher from us, wears that special something from us that they designed themselves.  That it reminds lots of little girls of how special, unique and pretty they are.  One day when we ‘grow up’ it might even be a business our daughters (who are both very creative) might learn to run and enjoy.
Where can people get hold of you?

Make your own little drawstring busy bags

I am definitely one of those moms who always has a toy in her bag, for “just incase”
I make double sure to take a little busy bag along to church, the doctor, restaurants and on visits because expecting him to sit still in those settings is just not sane I tell you!
I’ve been using ziplock bags to shove puzzles, cars or crayons into, but I needed a more ecofriendly solution… so in comes my little drawstring busy bags made from an old t-shirt:

WHAT YOU NEED:
– An old t-shirt…I used a faded baby one
– scissors
– twine/ribbon/string
– needle and thread

WHAT TO DO:

1.  Cut under the sleeves and then down the centre
2.  Turn piece you have cut off, inside out
3.  Sew sides and bottom, using a basic stitch (I only know basic stiches, lol) do not sew closed the seam part
4.  Attach your twine/string/ribbon to a hair pin and lace it through the seam
5. It really is as easy as that 🙂

Motherhood it good for my self-esteem

Kids, I find, are great for your self-esteem…my one especially

He thinks I’m an awesome writer:

I wrote him a story and now he insists I tell it to him every night… Then I get,”nice mama, again” 🙂

He thinks I sing really well:

“Mama we sing”… he has even told other people to shhhh so mama can sing

He thinks I make a great cup of tea:

num num tea  …. tanku

He thinks I’m a fantastic crafter:

WOW, mama pwetty

He thinks I can heal hurt with a hug and a kiss:

Kissy “einana” mama

He thinks I’m a Superhero:

He can do anything as long as I’m holding his hand or he can at least see me

He thinks I’m a snazzy dresser:

says nice or pwetty if he like’s what I’m wearing

He doesn’t mind my scars:

lifts my top so he can snuggle on my tummy when watching tv

– He showers me with butterfly kisses and hugs me when I’m sad and always (well nearly always, lets just say often)  appologises for being naughty, with a snuggly hug..

This kid thinks I’m awesome and when I am with him, I do kinda feel pretty awesome

Here is one of the articles from this issue:

UNDER MY SKIN
10 EVERYDAY THINGS THAT ARE BAD FOR YOUR SKIN

1. Sleeping with make-up on
Apart from the chemicals and potential allergens in some make-up brands, not washing it off before bed
has devastating effects, such as clogging pores, disrupting natural repair and shedding (renewal), and
drying out skin, leading to accelerated breakdown of collagen and elastin and even oxidative stress.
Trust us: wash your face, every night.

2. Drinking – and eating – too little water
Without water, skin dehydrates, gets damaged and ages quickly. Every cell in your body needs water to
metabolise normally, which is why the eight glasses a day rule is one to live by. But there also seems to
be some eating more water-rich foods purported better water absorption.

3. Squeezing pimples
Trying to pop a pimple can do more harm than good: you could push dirt and bacteria deeper into the
pores, and you may inflame and damage the subcutaneous follicle and skin tissue leading to more
inflammation, bleeding and even scarring. Often, this only leads to more breakouts.

4. Skipping meals – the wrong way
Whether you’re just too busy or trying to lose weight, note that experts say skipping meals messes with
your metabolism. There is some evidence suggesting controlled restrictive eating on alternate days
holds overall health benefits. But note that your skin needs those
essential nutrients and vitamins from food, so skip with caution.

5. Your phone and dirty sunglasses
Anything that comes in contact with your face can leave dangerous bacteria and environmental
pollutants behind. And of course you hold your phone right on your cheek, and your glasses rest on the
delicate spots just under your eyes and on the bridge of your nose. So, please, carry some antibacterial
wipes and keep these items clean.

6. Hair products on your skin
It’s no secret that products such as dye and hair spray contain dangerous chemicals. That’s why you
shouldn’t ingest them. But the alcohols and lacquers in hair products, including skin penetrators such as
propylene glycol, may dry out your skin and wreak havoc over time. Cover the skin on your face and
neck with a clean towel when you apply or spray.

7. Excessive chlorine
Mind the pool water: chlorine tends to react with the water in your body to form damaging acids (free
radicals), even when absorbed through skin – hence the dry, patchy skin after loads of swimming. Have
a soapy shower after your swim and follow up with your antioxidant-rich moisturiser every time.

8. Over-plucking your eyebrows
Naturally, ripping a hair out of the follicle damages the skin a little. But it’s the repeated pinching and
pulling on such delicate skin that could harm collagen and elastin fibres. For proper
brow plucking, do it after a warm bath or shower, hold the surrounding
skin tight with your fingers and gently pull (don’t pluck) in the direction the hair naturally grows.

9. Passive smoking
Yes, even if you don’t smoke, those smoking around you are contributing to your skin ageing. Cigarette
smoke is known for causing poor blood-flow in skin, as well as stimulating the production of MMP
enzymes that destroy elastin and collagen.

10. Dirty make-up brushes
These are a breeding ground for bacteria. They collect dead skin cells, oils, dirt and old make-up residue,
and then you reapply it to your face every day. Try to brush yours after each use on a damp cloth and let
it dry properly before storing. Then, wash them with a product for this purpose or anti-bacterial solution
at least twice a month.
