Time for the big chop?

Before and After maybe?

It’s just hair! I know this! you know this! but the fact is, this changes when deciding whether to cut your “baby’s” hair or not, because a haircut somehow signals loss of babyness….

I love Aidan’s curls, we are team “big hair don’t care” but in all honesty even mommy gets a trim now and again and I think it might be time for a trim and then some.

“Team Big Hair Don’t Care”

His curls are super cute, but I think at the current length it’s just not working.
Aidan has a fun habit of rubbing his hands in his hair! you know how your mom had to shout at you to not clean your hands on your jeans? well I need to tell Aidan not to clean his hands in his hair! He also loves playing in sand and making it rain down into his hair (I have combed actual little stones out of his hair).
This means daily hair washing which isn’t ideal for someone with his thick mop, because drying is not a breeze (got this from his mama) and with his recurring chest problems you don’t want him running around with wet hair (even though I’ve heard this is a myth, I’m not taking chances). . .
I guess I just think his hairstyle is going from “cutely dishevelled” to “shame where are your parents”…
It seems obvious, it’s just hair, just cut, but the curls have become “him” in such a big way, I’m still weary of the big chop…

What do you guys think, to cut or not to cut . . .

A peek at the future of washing machines

Oh how far we have come…

iBasket Concept Review

The invention of washing machines have surely made cleaning clothes easier and faster and the future will probably have more in store for us.
Washing machines have transformed the way we live and the way we wash clothing. They have made life easier and probably also given us more time to get on with other household chores. The invention of washing machines is constantly in a state of improvement, with the aim  to make life even better for us. Who knows, perhaps one day we may end up being able to use washing machines that don’t use water. Unbelievable yes, but the future of washing machines is one that brings with it great amounts of innovation that is bound to blow your mind. One such innovation is the recently invented, which is still a concept but gives us a glimpse of the potential of the industry, and this concept is of the IBASKET. Here is a closer look at this invention.
 The Electrolux iBasket
Imagine a washing machine that can automatically clean your clothes with transparency; this is it. Designed by Guopeng Liang at China Tongji University during an Electrolux Design Lab Competition, it is a brilliant innovation with great potential to give cleaning clothes a little bit of an edge and ease. This electronic and mobile infused machine washes your clothes once there are enough clothes in it and you can control the frequency of wash cycles. It gets better though; it will then send you a message on your computer or mobile once the cleaning is done. You may be a feeling a mix of skepticism and perhaps a little bit of excitement but there’s more.
All this will be made possible by its ability to wirelessly connect to a PC. It brings with it more features such as remote monitoring and control via PC and instant messaging notification. This means, you don’t need to sit around at home waiting for that machine to be done. You can now run errands and do what you need to do and get a notification only when the machine is finished cleaning your clothes. Talk about moving from royal pain of doing laundry to plain royalty.
In the words of the designer, “the Electrolux iBasket was inspired by the need to revolutionize washing machines in a way that could make life easier for an “i-generation” that is too busy working for their dreams” ~ Goupeng Liang. So this was a way to forget the whole laundry thing and save time while focusing on tending to the more urgent need to achieve your dreams.
The idea is to stop worrying and focusing your attention on cleaning clothes, but to let the machine do all the work for you. This means using it as a laundry basket that will detect and wash clothes as soon as its full then alert you when it’s done? You will no longer have to set apart a whole day for cleaning clothes because you will be able to control and monitor it remotely due to its Wi-Fi abilities. If anything, this machine should excite you and make you look forward to the future of washing machines; if this were to become a reality, which is very likely in a few years from now, it would be the epitome of the phrase, “life made easier”.

Answer some questions, Pretty Please Charlie

This is not the first time I have interviewed Charlene, in fact she did a Shoe Day   post with me last year. . . So needless to say I have been reading her blog for a while now and I was pretty chuffed to find that she is part of SA Mom Blogs…She writes over at PrettyPleaseCharlie focusing on all things beauty…The great thing about her is that she is honest about the products she reviews…no PR sucking up for this girl…she calls a spade a spade, or in her case a bad lipstick a bad lipstick…hehehe
Here is what she has to say:

PicMonkey Collage
Totally stole this pic from her about page

-What made you decide to blog in the first place?
I love trying new products, especially make-up and skincare. I could see my family and friends were not as in to it as I was and I ran out of people to tell. So I thought, why not blog?
-What was your concept behind your blog?
I get very excited about all things beauty and I especially love to share products and tips that have made me feel more confident. If one of my posts can lead to someone else feeling better about themselves, I’ve done what I’ve set out to do. It may sound very superficial, but it’s not necessarily about beauty, it’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin.
– Do you have a system in regards to how often you blog?
I just try to blog as often as I can, whether it’s three times a week or three times a day. I have a full time job and a very busy toddler, so it all depends on time available. Family always comes first though.
-Did you find yourself nervous at prospect of letting people into your life in this way?
Yes, I do. I feel very vulnerable when posting about my personal life. I don’t do it too often, but I have found that those posts are usually the most popular and sometimes lead to something more positive.
-Do you ever worry that your kids will be like “mom why are you exposing my life?” (I worry sometimes)?
Yes. That’s why I prefer to keep family posts to a minimum. I do like to show her off now and then 😉
-Does your family read your blog?
Only when I force them too. Ha-ha. See answer to question 1.
-What do you hope to achieve through the blog?
My blog is my way of being part of an industry that I love. I get a huge thrill when a PR company sees fit to share the news of a new launch or product with me. It makes me feel like my opinion matters. I love in turn sharing this with my readers.
-What do you think about the blogging culture in South Africa?
I am very blessed to be part of an awesome community. I have met so many wonderful people. People that will remain my friends, even if the blog does not. I know that there is a lot of nastiness and politics, but I have luckily not experienced it myself, or I may just be too blonde to notice.
-What do you think makes for a “good blog”
Honesty. Whether you blog about your personal life or only post reviews, be honest and be true to yourself. Don’t blog in the hopes that others will love your blog, you need to love your blog. Your passion for what you write about will shine through.
-How do you personally measure success in the blogging world
Let’s be honest. For a beauty blog, stats, followers and PR mailing lists are very important. I also believe that if you can look at your work and feel proud, you are successful, never mind the stats.

A little monster for my little monster

Aidan is VERY into anything monster related, Monsters and Frozen (what can I say. my kid is an all rounder) He gets sooooo excited , stomps around roaring and making monster hands… It started with Monsters Inc. but now he seems to even notice generic “monsters” anything that has googly eyes or is slightly monstery looking gets his attention (I’m not sure how he classes them) …I thought it might be fun to make him his own monster, this is what I came up with…

I didn’t take step by step pictures, but it’s pretty simple…..

You need:

A old onsie (I used one that was specially made for him and I couldn’t bare to part with anyway)
Scraps of  material
Buttons
Fabric paint
needle and thread
Stuffing (My monster is stuffed with old baby clothes and burp cloths, those I didn’t donate because they were just not cute any more…stained, torn, faded)

How to:

Turn onsie inside out
sew up openings at hands and feet
turn back right way around
Sew on a face with material scraps
Sew on buttons for eyes and paint on a mouth
Stuff your monster and sew up the neck part
– Next time I will use a bigger face, but not bad for a first try, I think

The days are getting hotter and so are the tee’s – Mr P.com

I’m currently, right now, as I type, waiting for a package to arrive from Mr P.com. I couldn’t find my size in store and thought “dude that’s what the internet is for” (I call myself dude in my head because I’m cool like that.)  I had some issues buying online, but their technicians sorted me out FAST, and now I’m waiting like a kid before Christmas.
I’m not really a t-shirt kind of girl but I must say that their current line of tee’s are beginning to sway me a little, what do you think….
You can tuck the fitted tee into printed pants or distressed denims or be all high fashion with crop tops paired with a midi skirt and dungarees….For that sexy without revealing too much look…

These are a few of my favourites: SHOP TEES

Love how this reminds me of the movie Clueless…..
and if you don’t get the reference, I’m afraid

*see above* hehehe, this quote is from Mean Girls
These are more me though, comfy and unrestricted
and I don’t have to be a skinny mini to look good

But if you are lucky enough to be a skinny mini you can opt for those
FLORAL T-SHIRT
