Swimming with “natural hair”…tips and tricks (with Vlog)

One of the benefits of embracing your natural hair is that you don’t have to plan swimming trips around your hairdressers schedule. The amount of times I have either heard or said the phrase: “I’d swim but I don’t want to get my hair wet/spoil my style”, is quite frankly insane. You don’t have that with natural hair, you don’t have to calculate the money wasted on your hair if you go take a dip. But as with everything regarding natural hair;  it’s not quite as easy as it looks.

So I decided to share some tips and tricks with you. Some are from trial and error and others are from a trained professional…You’re welcome

Parenting report card fail – when your child questions your love

If you had to be graded and handed a parenting report card, do you think you would be happy with the results?  This thought occurred to me yesterday as I was sitting flat on my behind in our driveway cradling my disappointed son. A son who had just asked if I wanted him to find other parents? Because sometimes we (Rob and I) make him feel like we don’t want to be his parents…..QUEUE HEARTBREAK!

For background…Aidan is four, he is a very perceptive four-year-old, but like many preschoolers he can be manipulative and cunning, he can tell you he hates you without blinking an eye and when he is caught doing something naughty he will launch into a monologue about how he hates himself and should be locked up in jail– so you end up consoling him instead of reprimanding him. This aside, it’s NEVER NICE to hear that your kid isn’t too sure of your intentions.

An all natural Bubiroo treat for you (win win win)

Bubiroo is the latest in skincare for kids and it’s made right here in the Bay. We were very lucky that the person behind the brand, Dorae, decided to use the #ECMeetup as her brand’s first public appearance and introduce us to her ever growing product range. It was quite the hit and even those with no use for “baby products” loved it, as it’s been decided that the baby wax is great for lips and the baby shampoo makes an awesome makeup remover. Today I am giving away my favourite product in the range. THE HEALING BALM

We have been using the healing balm  as a family for the last couple of days and LOVE IT. Rob uses it as an after shaving balm, I use it on Aidan’s scrapes and scratches and have even used it on the extremely dry patches of skin between my eyes (I don’t know how this is a thing). It is a great all rounder like a petroleum jelly with actual healing properties. Fancy people Vaseline , hehehe

Charnelle Paulse: Curvy girl fashion tips from a pro

A little while ago I got to ask Charnelle Paulse – one of the most recognisable faces on the SA modeling scene – for some fashion advice. She is a “plus-sized” model and since the only thing I can buy in medium these days is a Big Mac McMeal, I hoped she could give me some advice on how to dress for my shape, but I ended up getting so much more.

Since I have eyes and have glanced at magazines, store windows and my social media feed in the past year, I knew exactly who this gorgeous woman was. So I was rather excited to get the chance to ask her a few questions…I was expecting, “don’t wear this, wear that”, but instead, I got some”real talk” from a woman whose self-confidence shines through as strongly in an online interview as it does in a  bikini.
