Super Happy Birthday Dad (granpa)

Happy birthday daddy, thank you for always teaching by example…
Teaching generosity by sharing
Teaching humility by not being afraid to say I’m sorry
Teaching the value of learning new things by always being up for a challenge
Teaching the value of family by putting us first
and the value of being young at heart by not taking yourself too seriously.
We love and appreciate you more than you know

Fun on the horizon

So instead of looking back at my weekend [spent in bed because I’m sick] I’m looking forward to a great weekend of events still coming  up, seriously going to be a doozie…time to get my time management skills back on track

Friday it’s my dad’s 50th we going for a 50s diner theme ….very exciting! But also nerve wrecking as there is still so much to do
Saturday morning we will be celebrating Riley and Blake’s 1st birthday J party time for the little ones
Saturday  afternoon it’s my friend Jenine’s birthday, it’s a carnival theme…whoop whoop [jenine is the one on my left in the pic]
Sunday it’s the color run, yeah color run!!!! Can’t wait
Then it’s Sunday lunch, a braai hosted by my friend Durelle
Is it possible to be tired already?

Getting ready for my dads birthday

One of Aidan’s favourite “aunts” celebrates her birthday
The happiest race on earth-here we come

Prince and princesses for the day

This past weekend we attended a very novel event…high tea but for the littlies, Taylor’s pre-school hosted it and she was allowed to bring a friend, she chose her “cousin” Kirsten. Each table at the “high tea” was decorated to a different theme and the kids dressed up to match. Kirsty and Tay were at the princess table and asked if I could bring Aidy along. I did and thought it would be fun to dress him up too…out comes his tuxedo onsey MUCH CUTE! Everyone had such a blast…see pics J

Insert supermom powers here

When I was a little girl I always thought moms had super powers…they could just be everywhere, know everything and fix everything….in hindsight the moms I knew then were about my age now so if the super power thing were true it should kick in round about now and you know what? I think it is . . . *cue soap opera style music*
I've always been clumsy, its not that I'm uncoordinated per say its just that my vision without contact lenses/glasses is severely lacking and I often have so much going on in my head I simply don't look where I'm going which often results in me having tons of unexplained blue marks and broken crockery….but when it comes to Aidan that's not the case…with him in my arms I could replace one of the Mario brothers and make it to "screaming princess level"
I have pretty much always been off in my own world and my mom would have to do the "Eleanor don't make me call you again" voice before I'd realize I was called in the first place, but now with Aidan asleep in his room I can hear him silently wake up or even just kick blanket off over the sound of the blender and Robs X-box…
Me "he kicked blanket off again"
Rob "how do you know that?"
Me "sounds from his room sound different, less muffled"
Rob "you know you are crazy right"
*check his room*
Me "crazy? Maybe, right? Definitely"
Aidan (even though he is quite serious) has always been a very active kid (can't just do 1 thing at a time) like breast feeding can't just be him laying there drinking "no way Jose" his legs have to be involved in some acrobatics while his hands investigate my clothes and he stops to chat along the way…if I happen to have my phone in my hand I need to be ready for any surprise attacks because he loves this thing [I even struggle to get cute pics of him these days because the moment he sees the phone he drops what he was busy with]
His busy ness [think he is making up for time lost in NICU] his training for the pacifier spitting contest and constant spitting up makes the image of me juggling a 7kg+ baby while catching a flying pacifier and cleaning spit up off Aidan, myself and anything else that gets drenched, pretty common…this doesn't make for best comic book , but its pretty impressive (knowing my history)
My busybody is under the false. impression that he can sit upright and even stand, so he spends much of his time trying to wriggle out of your arms to "do his own thing" which calls for some mean upper body strength…the same strength needed to bath him (his bath times bring to mind the Africans nursery rhyme "AS BOETIE BAD is allies nat" roughly translated "when brother baths everything is soaked) the same strength is needed when trying to get this little anti-sleep activist down for the night.
Let us not get into the mental strength needed not to freak out when you are bitten while breast feeding are spit up on, your hair gets pulled, or are scratched [this kids nails need to be cut every second day,its crazy] or the stamina needed to operate on very little sleep.
but its all worth it and although I'm by no means 'the perfect mom" and I can't fight some smooth talking super villain while keeping my hair perfectly sculpted, there is something to. be said for "mom powers" and I look forward to. discovering what comes next….

HAVE A GREAT DAY

Guilt free cupcakes

This past weekend I was in cupcake heaven!!! Seriously people! on Saturday at a birthday party Aidan was invited to ( I tagged along  as he is not quite of “take care of myself age”)  I had the most decadent cupcake EVER! A chocolate cupcake with a surprise inside, an Oreo cookie covered with caramel all topped with cream and a chocolate drizzle , it was sinful! so sinful in fact I had a second [ kudos Jill, you can bake lady!] I thought cupcakes don’t get much more delectable than that until the next day when we visited friends Maro and Sal. Sal had baked some basic vanilla cupcakes and was looking for a way to decorated it, with mutual friend, Carmen’s help the cupcakes where transformed into banoffee gems. The centers of the cupcakes were scooped out and replaced with a slice of banana and a, far to generous for my thighs, scoop of caramel then the whole thing was covered with fresh cream and because it wouldn’t be Sal without a touch of glam the cupcakes were dusted with glitter and served on a heart shaped cutting board [I tried to assist with the decorating, but Sal finds my “messy heaping technique” a bit too measured and neat, hahaha]

With my love of cupcakes completely revived I realized I could NOT go on like this, not if my bet with friends Thulani and Bianca was going to go forward [we are all trying to get into shape and have dared ourselves to meet up in a popular spot sometime at the end of the year wearing our “aspiration outfits”-mine includes shorts so caramel drenched cupcakes are not really ideal]

But I seriously love cupcakes, what is a girl to do? Give up cupcakes? Hahahahahahahah NO! instead I googled and found these great cupcakes all for 120calories or less, SERIOUSLY!!! There is such a thing? Well all the cupcakes in the attached pic claim to be GUILT FREE!

I am going to try these out and let you know…. You can find the recipes at http://www.skinnymom.com/2013/05/19/11-crazy-good-crazy-low-cal-cupcake-recipes/#10  let me know what you think…
