Room for rainbow

I’m only 18 weeks pregnant today so it’s slightly early to be looking at baby rooms BUT I love decor and I have been looking for a way to get into baby mode a little more since I’ve found it difficult to connect with pregnancy – probably because I’m just soooo scared deep down inside – but at the same time I dont want to miss any part of this pregnancy and baby. . . here are some ideas for the baba room

Every step counts

So yesterday a newbie at the office was commenting on the fact that I have worked in almost every department in this building and asked what it was that I ultimately wanted to do with my life. Then it hit me- kind of like the bottle of water I knocked off a shelf a few minutes ago that knocked me in the chest- it hit me that I don’t actually know, I have these pipe dreams of being a stay-at-home mom come author/photographer/blogger , but it’s not really realistic, it’s just one of those “wouldn’t it be nice” dreams… This year marks 10 years since High School and I’ve done OK for myself, I have the career, the home (albeit rental), car, husband and baby on the way. I have great friends and amazing family so I’m quite lucky in most respects then I wonder in the words of Britney Spears (I’m quoting Britney *shoot me*) “If there’s nothing missing in my life. Then why do these tears come at night?”

My friend reminded me that it’s been a tough year, no time for contemplation and Zen like stock taking, my plans had been derailed but with time I’ll find “my plan” again and start working towards it. I decided to go with that idea, its okay that -for the first time I can remember- there is no plan I’m working towards, that “keeping it together” has become a full time job…I’m many ways I’m still in mourning (for Logan, for friends for family), I’m still worrying about loved onesgoing through tough times and I’m still coming to terms with my life not being at all like it was supposed to be right about now, there is no bundle of joy waiting for me at home and my godmother who has always been such a powerful fixture in my life is very ill, meanwhile I’m trying to find my place when it comes to friendship circles L

No this is not a pity party! just me saying; it’s OK Eleanor, it’s OK not to know what you want to do with tomorrow, it’s fine that you are just barely coping with today. My gran had a saying in Afrikaans “Klim in en ry, die pad sal ons reg skud” roughly translated “Get in and ride, the road will knock us into place” —  which she explained to mean “do what you can God will take care of the rest”.

So I might not know the big picture right now, but I’m doing what I can…happy Tuesday

Happy Birthday Kirsten (stuff she says)

There are a few very special little girls in my life (more since the baby boom of 2013)
Anyway today one of these special little girls celebrates her second birthday…..YEAH!
Happy Birthday Kirsten!

Kirsten has been a very vocal one-year-old, (ridiculously sarcastic and cheeky for her age) especially the last few months, here are a few of her funniest moments: (can’t wait to see what her “twos” have in store)

– She’s quite shy so sometimes needs to be prompted to interact…
HER MOM: Say hello to Elle
  KIRSTY: Hello Elle *hug*
ME: Hey how are you today
KIRSTY: No, Kirsty only says hello…*walks away*

– Not realising the question had been asked at a thousand times that day…
MY SIS: Kirsty where is Pa (her grandfather)
   KIRSTY: In my pocket

– While watching TV on the couch
ME: You smell nice like a baby
KIRSTY: *Scrunches up face like some people do when speaking to babies while wiggling fingers like shes about to tickle me* Ooooh like a baaaaybeee, like a little baaaybeee, look at the little baaaaybeee

– After a mischievous moment
  UNCLE: Kirsten don’t be naughty
KIRSTY: I’m not naughty I’m just a baby

– She intercepts a call from her mother to me
  KIRSTY: Hello, where are you
  ME: I’m at work
  KIRSTY: NO!
ME: What do you mean? I’m really at work
  KIRSTY: NO, you don’t work!
  ME: I do
KIRSTY: Okaaaaayyy *don’t believe you tone* Miss you

– Getting sleepy in the back of the car
HER MOM: Oooh you so tired, are you going to get into bed and sleep when we get home
KIRSTY: No Kirsty sleep in your bag *laughs like she’s just SOOO funny*

– Having a “serious” talk with her mom
KIRSTY: You know, ouma has a laptop, Elle has a laptop, Nita (aunt) has a laptop, Yaya (aunt) has a laptop, EVERYBODY has a laptop, but kirsty *sigh*
  Later I overhear:
KIRSTY: I can just take Elle’s laptop ne
  She sees me:
KIRSTY: So wheres your laptop *sneaky smile*

– Shopping with her mom and I
 KIRSTY: What you doing?
 ME: Looking for a dress
KIRSTY: *looking puzzled and starts pointing at things* but this is a dress and this is a dress
ME: How about that one? *pointing at her mom*
KIRSTY: *Wants to practically grab it from her mother* NOOOO! not that one mommy! put it back, mommy put it back, it not pretty mommy no!

– Out for breakfast – first time she gets handed utensils at restaurant
KIRSTY: *looks at blunt knife and fork in the serviette* shhhhh they sleeping
ME: *playing along* is the knife a girly?
KIRSTY: *in a uhm duh tone* the knife is a boy Elle, fork is a girly

– She originally wanted to order a burger but settled for a scrambled egg breaky
  WAITRESS: *puts down plate*
KIRSTY: Thank you ,where is my burger
HER MOM: You like egg, just try it
KIRSTY: *eats about half her food and pushes away plate*  thank you can I have my burger now
ME: You won’t be able to finish a burger now, drink your juice
KIRSTY: *obliges and drinks juice* mmmmm I’m drinking a burger, mmmmm I’m drinking my chippies

– Pointing out fruit in fruit basket
KIRSTY: Apple, pear, banana, orange, naartjie, and not a naartjie (lemon)

Looking forward to many more “conversations” with this little one
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRSTY, SEE YOU AT YOUR PARTY!

Kirsten and her mother, Che-lynn

To Logan on his 8-month “heavenaversary”

Dear LogieBear

I was looking at your 3d scan pics this morning, you looked like such a happy baby. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you says you had such a pleasant demeanour – despite the pain you must have been in (I hope you sibling gets that fighting spirit from you) I miss you a lot this week angel and can’t seem to think of you without getting all misty eyed.

If they were able to save you you would be eight months old now and I can’t help but wonder who you would take after, whose eyes do you have? whose smile? would you be a grouch in the morning like your dad? or suffer from a midday slump like your mom? I wonder if you grew up would you and your sibling  have been a terrible two-some getting into mischief together or would you always be fighting and have to be separated (like me and your uncle).

It looks like you’ll have a little sister in a couple of months and its sad that she will never get to know you 🙁
but thanks to you I know we will appreciate her more, we will be better parents and will envelope her in love and I know this baby will be extra special as she has an angel for a big brother 🙂

I miss you angel, now and forever
