DIY Doggy jersey

So my sister brought home two dogs, one of which is a tiny little thing that was freezing her lil bum off, Her constant shivering made me feel really bad for , her so I decided to make a little sweater/jersey/top thing to help keep her warm, here is what I did:

What you need:
  • A pair of old tights or sleeve off a old jersey/sweater (I went for warm tights that I never wear because one leg seems to be smaller than the other-go figure)
  • scissors
  • anything you’d want to use for embellishing (I went for pink ribbon because without that I was sure she’s look like she was wearing
  • measuring tape (goodluck trying to measure a wriggling little puppy)

What you do:

  1. Measure the dog from neck to hind legs and then from neck to front legs
  2. Use the first measurment to determine the length of “sleeve” or “pants leg” you need
  3. Cut off  the “cylinder” you need
  4. Then use the second measurement to determine where you need to cut holes for front legs
make the leg holes a third of the way up
  5. Then attach your embellishment with needle and thread / or sew free glue 🙂

YEAH CUTE DOG!!!!

5 months today

Today marks five months since our dear boy passed away. I found the following poem online, it really touched my heart and I just HAD to share:

Broken Chain
BY: Ron Tranmer

We little knew that day
God was going to call your name
In life we loved you dearly
In death,we do the same

It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone
for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home

You left us beautiful memories,
your love is still our guide
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again

Do you believe in dreams?

I took this picture this weekend,
It’s amazing what you can see when you just open your eyes

Do you believe in dreams?

I’ve been having loads of surreal dreams lately, like my late grandmother telling me everything is going to be ok and that Logan was in good hands, a dream where Robin and I were looking through a baby name book and found the name we want to give our future daughter (I didn’t remember ever hearing the name and upon waking up I googled the name and turns out it means ascend-at the time I was wondering what God wanted from me so I took that as a sign).

Then this past Friday evening,  the day before my friends funeral, I dreamt she came to “chat” she said she had just come from home, but all the sadness was upsetting her, she told me how she accepted what was coming and that she was at peace, it just saddened her that she never got the chance to be a wife and mother and that it really saddened her that she was causing the people she loved so much heartache, she also told me she hoped they knew how much she  loves them. The rest of the dream was a blur, but I woke up with such a sense of peace.

I dream A LOT! sometimes I remember everything in vivid detail other times only the emotion remains – you know those, where someone upsets you in the dream and you wake up and suddenly any little thing they do annoys you… And then there are occasion where I get the “gist” of the dream but not the whole picture, like last night when in a dream I adopted a little girl who it turns out came from a surrogate, that was very odd, but not as odd as the fact that for the other half of the dream I was married to a famous gay entertainer. (apparently dreaming of being with someone you would never be with in real life signifies your desire to obtain one of their personality traits)

I love reading up about dreams, when I was little my gran (a big believer in the power of dreams) asked me to write down my dreams because she believed my dreams offered great insight. I always just figured if anyone over-thought every little thing like I did (do) it made sense for my emotions and thoughts to “come to life” through dreams.

I’m not 100% sure if I believe in “dreams” but I like them none the less, I like being on the receiving end of subtle messages from the universe as these “devine hugs” often come at the moment I need it most.

Has a dream ever had a significant meaning to you…

The real unadulterated truth

As I type this I feel my cheeks get warm and I feel nervous with anticipation, how will my readers react? My blog has a fairly big reach, anything more than 50 is big to me,hehehe  . . . and many are friends and family members. How will they feel about what I’m about to say? But you know what? it’s not about anyone, but me and Rob. . .so here goes:
I want to be pregnant again! I want to take home a little bundle of joy and I want to hear someone call me mummy.

I feel like I’ve been hiding these emotions for the last few weeks and as a person I’m nothing if not completely honest. . . So yes I want a baby.
Hints in that direction have been met with raised eye brows from many people in my life. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to smack people with “good intentions” “unintentionally” trying to dictate what I’m supposed to be feeling and how I’m supposed to be acting…

Shocked faces and questions like,  “You want to what?”, “Are you emotionally ready?”, “What if something happens again?”, “Are you physically ready”, “Don’t you think it’s too soon to start thinking like this?”, “Have you given yourself enough time to grieve”,”Don’t you think you are rushing this?”, “What if you can’t conceive?” seem to be the order of the day

Well let me answer the questions in order: (Keeping in mind I’m well aware that I don’t owe anyone an explaination, but this blog is my place to vent so here goes)

1. “You want to what?” I want to be a mother and I want to give my husband a child and my parents grand kids
2. “Are you emotionally ready?” Are you? *rolls eyes* Our therapist is very happy with our progress and so are we
3. “You realise it’s a big step?” I am not a 15-year-old on Ricky Lake wanting her 3rd child on welfare, I’m a 27-year-old “journalist”, married to a 30-year-old detective, with enough common sense between us to realise that this is not buying a goldfish
4. “What if something happens again?” We live in faith and choose to believe that our next pregnancy will be fine, it is going to be an extremely tense 9months, but we choose not to live in fear.
5. “Are you physically ready” I almost died on the operating table and I lost a son, there is no way I’m going to play with my health or that of my unborn child. We wouldn’t do anything without the doctors go ahead and I would be closely monitored throughout. That being said, I’ve taken almost every test they could think of and “I’m healthy, there is no reason for this to occur again”
6. “Don’t you think it’s too soon to start thinking like this?” Five months is not long at all, it feels like just the other day I had to say goodbye to Logan, but before then we desperately wanted to be parents and that hasn’t changed
7. “Have you given yourself enough time to grieve” I will probably be grieving for the rest of my life so this is a none question
8. “Don’t you think you are rushing this?” If this year with it’s multiple losses and various forms of heartache has taught me anything it is that, nothing in life is certain, you have to seize the moment. . . besides chances are it will take a while to conceive and sometimes you just have to take the plunge.
9. “What if you can’t conceive?” Then we will look into adoption, the bottom line is we want to be parents, don’t we deserve that privilege?

Well now you know my heart.
It might sound weird that it is taking so much guts for me to type this, but I hate confrontation and hate having my motives questioned, but truth be told I hate going home to a half finished baby room and feeling like something is missing so much more and I also hate having to keep wanting a baby, a secret because I want my “rainbow” to know he/she was wanted and prayed for from the start!

August Rush :)

Today is day one of August 2012, I swear this year has just whooshed by and to be honest I don’t mind the whooshing  (it has not been the best year) , too much loss and too much heartache.

In the past I used to make a monthly to do list, that kinda fell by the way side, but I thought it’s time I restart so here goes:

In August 2012, I hope to:

– Lose some weight

– Organise my time better

– Reconnect with old friends

– Get back into yoga

– Be more serious about my photography

– Spend more time with the husband

– Spoil my nieces and God daughter

– Have some me time

Bringing back Tuesdays as Shoesdays

I realised I haven’t done Shoesdays in such a long time, a shame really as we all know how a pretty shoe can brighten your day (for some of us, not all of us, but def for me and some great girls I know)
Here is some shoe porn to get us back in the shoeday swing of things. . .
I’m starting off with the brands which in my opinion are the “Godfathers of sole” (The shoes aren’t all current season, but stunning none the less)
