10 things I’m thankful for

In a quest to take back my smile (slowly but surely) Every week I’m choosing ten things to be thankful for… Starting now, What am I thankful for this week is,
– Religion cos it helps me be thankful our baby is safe in the arms of angels instead of suffering on earth (bleeding on the brain could have caused many problems)
– Parents who are always there for me
– Friends who make me laugh
– clothes 🙂
– That 70s show
– come dine with me
– finding out that I’m MUCH stronger than I thort
– Naps
– My camera, I love taking pics
– The fact that my new blackberry has a flash

….. Birthday To Me

It’s my birthday tomorrow…I’ll be 27 and I’m supposed to be happy. I’m not though, not that I’m sad, I’m nothing really, tired maybe?
I looked at what I blogged last year around this time, my problems were basic, I was broke, bored and really chubby, but I was happy really happy it seems.
Months later I got pregnant and became even happier and happier and also really big and moody, but my future looked so much brighter suddenly.
In six months I had changed what I wanted out of life and I became Logan’s mom as soon as a second line appeared on the stick…
Now on the eve of my birthday entering a new year without Logan/Logie/Log on/the Logan nest monster (what Rob and I referred to him as) I wonder will I ever be happy again?
I was happy before I got pregnant why does life after pregnancy seem so sad now?
I feel better in many ways, but noticed my eyes are still sad, I laugh, I smile, I chat, but when I look in the mirror this sad girl looks back at me, so much sorrow, I don’t really recognise her.
I keep hoping it’s just the fact that I’m still healing physically (giant staples down my stomach) and I’m basically drugged out of my mind half the day…
Seeing Robin so sad hurts too, love is a funny thing, I just want him to be ok, think I’ve convinced myself that as soon as he can smile again I will get my own smile back (scary thing is I think he is subconsciously waiting for my smile first)…
truth is our lives have changed, this little man with the cutest little nose and rosebud lips took a giant chunk of both our hearts when he left and now we are left needing to rebuild…
We want another baby, we both really do, not to replace Logan (he is always going to be our first born and have a place in our lives), but because we truly want to be parents.
But before that I need to heel physically (this is going to take a few months) and we need to heel emotionally (we starting therapy this week)
Logan’s crib and so on is being donated to charity and the room which was going to be a nursery is going to be a study for now, both of us are going to study further and I am going to work on this blog (my happy place) and get involved in a support group (my healing place)…
…But if I’m honest, it’s mostly to pass the time while we subconsciously wait for a little miracle of our own, a toothless little face to share all this love we still have to give…and who knows next year when I look back at this birthday post, I might be doing it from behind a baby bump with a smile on my face (a smile I intend to get back regardless of if or how our family grows)…
HEY LOOK AT THAT…typing all of this has already made me feel a little better 🙂
Happy birthday to me . . .

Losing Logan

Our baby died, it’s a hard message to convey, surreal, unbelievable, scary.
Logan was with us for just a day and a half, that’s it, he was loaned to us and was so special God couldn’t bare to be apart from him.
Last time I updated I was soooo excited about doing a 4d scan, we would finally see our little man, and we did, the scan was incredible, the radiographer referred to him as the busiest baby they had ever scanned and definitely one of the cutest, he wriggled around, covered his face, playing peek-a-boo and made both Rob and I melt inside.
I left the office on Monday on cloud nine, telling my friend how it was the best day EVER! i received my new phone, saw the scan and was on my way to a early supper with my husband.
When I got home I rushed to show scan pictures and videos to my parents who were equally elated. How exciting in a few months this little busy body would be in our arms, but life had other plans.
That night I suffered from stomach cramps, it gradually became worse and I had no choice but to go the emergency room. Still convinced i had just eaten something dodge, the doctors set up a few tests, that’s when they found out, I WAS IN LABOUR!!!, I was having contractions and pain set in hard and fast, suddenly I was fully dilated and being rushed to labour ward.
Pain and blood that’s all I remember, My placenta had ruptured and with every push all I got was blood clots and pain. My water was broken but was stained green (still waiting for test results) all I knew was I was going to do what doctor said, push through the pain and stay calm.
My placenta had ruptured, a rare condition which causes your placenta to become unattached to your uterus, no warning no nothing, suddenly me and my baby were in critical condition.
“I want my baby I shouted” but the doctors wouldn’t make eye contact, the message was clear, he was not going to make it. “I want my baby”that’s all i could remember thinking, with Robin at my side, holding my hand and praying non stop, I weaved in and out of consciousness, I had lost a lot of blood and having a rare type, meant more blood had to be rushed from another hospital. In a bid to save our lives they did an emergency cesarean, cutting me from my belly button down, the baby was taken out and I still had no idea how he was, the sad faces around the operating table gave me no hope and I immediately passed out.
Rob tells me I wasn’t doing well, weaving in and out of consciousness begging for my baby. I was told Logan was alive and my fight started. My body was weak and extremely painfull, every movement was pure agony, but I was going to do anything to get well for my baby. I took the bare minimum when it came to medicine in a bid to stay awake for him and tried to stay as upbeat as possible.
Meanwhile Rob did the rounds, spending half his time with me in ICU and Logan in NICU where he was still fighting for dear life in an incubator. Rob would send me pics and videos and I swear from the moment he heard he could have lost both of us he didn’t eat or sleep, he just stayed by my side and Logan’s , being there for “his family” (He took pics and videos so we could see each other)
The Tuesday Logan was fine and I was getting better he was kicking around and all diagnoses looked good-my tall handsome boy would be ok, Id see him the Wednesday and sing to him like I did while he was in my tummy, he would hear my voice and be okay. But that was meant to be, despite trying my best, I could not get there in time and my angel was taken away.
With my grief stricken family looking on (still amazed that I had made it through)They brought my perfect little man to see me, the spitting image of his father. In every way he had the same fighting spirit as his dad, but his body was just too small, not formed enough, weak as he was, he couldn’t fight off the bleeding on his brain and his organs which gave up slowly after.
In a way i think he saved my life, if it wasn’t for him I would never have come to the emergency room (not a fan of doctors) and if I didn’t have him to fight for I would probably have given up on the operating table, but him and his father kept me strong.
Still they do, his dad hasn’t left my side except under heavy protest and he has been my pillar of strength.
This is all a bit much at the moment, hardly an hour goes by without tears and like some1 told me, we will never get over this just learn to live with it. For now I’m in pain physically and emotionally but I know God will heel wounds 🙂
We gave Logan a beautiful send off (They let me out of hospital just in time) and although I’m practically confined to bed the future looks a little brighter each day.
A big thank you to all friends and family who have come out to support us in this tough time, your support is greatly valued. . .

Week 27 baby in 4D

Firstly my phone and car have both basically told me where to get off-oh joyous start to the new week!!!!

But moving on….

It’s week 27 and I’m still growing by the day, seriously I had some one say to me this morning “You must be counting down the days already” Not with about 97 days to go, Im not. (had to do a google calculation for that)

On the plus side its xactly 10 more weeks of work before I’m on maternity leave (if everything goes well that is).
Even greater than this is the fact that today Im doing the 4d scan so we get to have a glimps of the little one YEAH US!!!

Babyzone.com says:
fetal development at 27 weeks illustration
Your baby’s lungs and brain are beginning to mature. Although he’d have a good chance of survival if he were born now, he could use a few more weeks of growing. Added layers of fat are continuing to form. These layers will help your baby regulate his temperature once outside the womb and help keep him warm

Cameo girl

Lately (ok, not that lately-it’s been a while coming) I have developed a love for cameo jewellery, I can’t get enough of the stuff, it’s like all these individual little works of art, and although I only own two pairs of studs so far, Im making it my mission to grow my collection. Here are some stunning cameo finds from the interweb:

Maternity outfit post time

It’s getting harder and harder to look presentable, Ive actually outgrown some of my maternity clothes, but I’m trying! (rediculous swelling aside)  This weekend I wore:

1. Floral dress from unknown boutiquey shop (walked past, had to have it)
2. blue and tan pumps (Mr Price, took off the embelishment though, it was a bit much for me)
3. Bracelet (Gift from mom-in-law’s trip to Taiwan)
4. Earrings (Mr Price-LOVE THEM)
