Parenting report card fail – when your child questions your love

If you had to be graded and handed a parenting report card, do you think you would be happy with the results?  This thought occurred to me yesterday as I was sitting flat on my behind in our driveway cradling my disappointed son. A son who had just asked if I wanted him to find other parents? Because sometimes we (Rob and I) make him feel like we don’t want to be his parents…..QUEUE HEARTBREAK!

For background…Aidan is four, he is a very perceptive four-year-old, but like many preschoolers he can be manipulative and cunning, he can tell you he hates you without blinking an eye and when he is caught doing something naughty he will launch into a monologue about how he hates himself and should be locked up in jail– so you end up consoling him instead of reprimanding him. This aside, it’s NEVER NICE to hear that your kid isn’t too sure of your intentions.

The ultimate baby accessory with Kidcoco (win win win)

Kidcoco is one of our favourite local brands and I am  beyond chuffed to have them on board for the bumper Christmas competition.

If you look carefully at the picture of Liam above you will note that he is wearing an Amber teething necklace. Aidan and Caleb both wore them and although I couldn’t tell you the science behind them if I was on a game show with a car up for grabs, I really believe in these things.

Our first family vlog (with FatAttack Beach Rides)

So I have decided to start a family vlog. I like video and love watching YouTube but when it comes to me myself, I’m not good with scripted stuff. Well, I was good enough to pass the video course at University with flying colours (throw a brag in there) but when it comes to my blog I prefer to just be “what you see is what you get” (also time constraints, guys!) This prompted the idea of doing a family vlog. I have a few fun things coming up this festive season so I thought, hey why not invite you into the Meyers Meanders for the next few weeks.

So I film on my phone, cut and paste and you get to see what we get up to and hopefully get a few ideas of things to do…Like riding a special bike on the sand…

Gimme Naturals Curl Cure Review…the good, the bad, the meh

This past week I tried out Gimme Naturals Curl Cure Food. I was nervous NOT GONNA LIE because I really like the creator of the product, Michelle from Stylish Steppers and wasn’t sure what I’d do if it sucked? I mean she’s the only stylist that has been able to deal with this bush IN YEARS, so if I didn’t like the product (and you guys know I’d be honest in the review regardless) I’d have to find a new stylist and a new friend (because I would legit just avoid her) and I’m too lazy for that…Reminds me of the time my friend Nadine wrote a book and I read it saying please don’t suck please don’t suck…it didn’t suck see here.

Anyway I used it for a wash and go on Monday (the curl cure not the book) and added nothing else for the week…these are my opinions…

The Beauty Store addition to the Christmas bag (win win win)

Remember earlier this year when I told you about The Beauty Store  I mentioned how amazing the store was for make up artists and novices alike? Well Gillian from The Beauty Store has been kind enough to add a little magic to the Christmas haul prize in the form of a Switch & Blend by Dupe.

What is this Switch & Blend I speak of? Well  it’s a little sponge thing in a tin container, it’s great if you don’t have a million brushes or feel like cleaning the million you have. Basically by wiping the brush on the black part you rid it of product and can go to the next colour without transfer. So your pallet doesn’t look like a 5-year-old’s art project. The white piece in the middle is dampened and used to moisten your brush and give your eye shadows a darker look. AWESOMENESS! and Gillian has given me one to give to one of you lucky people, it’s worth R120 guys.

Review child-friendly activities with Kiddcierge and win

Are you looking for child-friendly activities? Well you are in luck Kiddcierge is an online service that helps parents on the lookout for child-friendly activities, places to visit/eat/stay. It’s the friend you ask for advice about a certain venue, “what can I expect? What can I do there? Why should I go there”

I have recently started working with the service in a bid to share more about the city I love; Nelson Mandela Bay. My First review was of Van Stadens resort one of our absolute favourite places to hang out. Honestly it wouldn’t be summer without a couple of trips out there.

Kiddcierge aims to take the guesswork out of finding a place that suites their family, because child-friendly activities might be plentiful but how do you know if it’s worth the trip out there and the entrance fee? (real talk)

Together we can harness our amazing community of rockstar parents and help each other navigate this crazy ride called parenthood TOGETHER.
