Kid-friendly Halloween movies

Why would I share a list of kid-friendly Halloween movies? well mainly because when it comes to Halloween themed movies I’m a wimp. Scary movies are not my thing. (Sneaking into the TV room to watch Freddy Kruger was one of my dumbest childhood moves). I want to start a Halloween movie tradition with the boys and figured this calls for “Halloween movies” minus the scare factor.

I’m not big on Halloween, I’ve shared some treat and snack DIYS in the past, but we don’t make a big deal out of it. However the boys want to celebrate, so I thought, why not just do snacks, low key costumes and when it gets dark use the projector to play a Halloween movie on the side of the house – it could become our little tradition.

The hotel Transylvania trilogy

There are currently three movies in the series, with a fourth set to release next year. We have Hotel Transylvania where a human named Jonathanaccidentally stumbles upon the hotel and instantly falls in love with Dracula’s teenage daughter. In the second movie we are introduced to their half-human/half-vampire son named Dennis and in the third, they go on a family vacation. These movies are silly, with the important animation feel-good ending and the premise could keep the whole family entertained

Coco

Despite being set in the realm of the dead Coco is a delight. It is emotional, and sweet and has some funny moments. In the movie, we follow Miguel who pursues his love for singing in spite of his family’s ban on music. He stumbles into the Land of the Dead, where he learns about his great-great-grandfather who was a legendary singer.

Casper

This 90s classic might just go down well with the kids. A ‘ghost therapist’ and his young daughter arrive at a house haunted by three rambunctious spirits and Casper – the friendly ghost – setting the stage for a slapstick adventure. I know that what we found funny in the 90s and what is considered funny now, is not at all the same, but it’s a classic and kids might just surprise you

Scooby-Doo

Somewhere in the early two-thousands, they created a live-action/computer-animated fantasy adventure-comedy based on the long-running Hanna-Barbera animated television series. There are four other movies so why not make a nostalgic night of it? And introduce the kids to the random teens or should I say meddling kids driving around in a van with their dog, solving mysteries

The Addams Family / The Addams Family 2

There are two CG animations that are super cute. In the first movie, The eccentrically macabre family moves to a bland suburb where Wednesday Addams’ friendship with the daughter of a hostile and conformist local reality show host exacerbates conflict between the families. In the second one, Morticia and Gomez are distraught that their children are growing up, to reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road.

 The book of life

I have not actually watched this one myself but the premise sounds super cute. In a bid to save the love of his life, Manolo sacrifices himself and is transported to the Land of the Remembered, where he reunites with his dead ancestors and strives to get his life back.
