Will an Insurance broker, leave me broker?

I heard about Incompass Insurance Consultants recently and wondered if it is something I need…am I at Consultant level in my life now? My immediate response is; No,  I can’t afford my current life, I can’t be adding things, but recently my house has been falling apart piece by piece and the excess has been in excess so I am reconsidering my stance.

Right now I need to replace a fridge, stove, TV and I have water damage, and I don’t even have enough coverage to burn the whole thing down and start from scratch (not that I’d do anything like that, I married a straight laced cop and 85% of the people I know are journalists) Just saying, the whole thing had me thinking that maybe I needed a consultant, someone who could have been a little clearer with me from day one.

Read the review, win the nappy #Newpamperspants

If you have ever woken up in a pee covered bed, just to be told by the offending person to make them some breakfast you are one of two things;  a heck of a party girl or a mom to a toddler, with a leaky nappy, who likes to jump into your bed at every opportunity.

I’m the latter, so was pretty chuffed when Pampers sent me a pack of their new Pampers Pants to try out on Super Aidy (which is how he would like to be addressed at the moment).

Super Aidy so stwong

Super Aidy’s first response to the pull up nappy was:  is this a underpants or a nappy? is it nappy underpants? nappy pants? what is this? (very cheeky this kid, also , he talks now)

What is this?

The new nappy is said to have great new features: my opinion in blue
•New unisex design that is easy to use (pull up rip off, so yes)
 • Extra Sleep-Layer: absorbs wetness and distributes it evenly across the core for up to 12 hours of dryness. (compared to what we are used to, WIN)
 • 2 Dry-zones: Pampers Pants have a unique acquisition system consisting of 2 layers (okay sure)
 • All-around fit: stretchy waistband and leg cuffs adapt to baby shapes and movements for a perfect fit in all positions. (Honestly apart from the newborn range which I really love, I wasn’t always a fan  of  Pampers because I didn’t like the fit, but this is soooo much better)
• Less bulky design: enabling anatomical fit and allowing maximum freedom of movement. (jip, no more looking like you have a wet nappy even if you were just changed, see above)
• Breathable: Micropores enable vapor to travel from inside to outside of the diaper to help your baby stay dry. (not sure how to test this)

Aidan is the ultimate test for nappies as he loves liquids  actually most of his meals are liquids, in fact he just had a veggie juice and some of my smoothie.
Lots of liquids in means lots of liquids out (I did bio at school can you tell?) It was becoming so bad around these parts that I had to wake up and change him in the middle of the night to avoid accidents.
Out of week we have tried these nappies we only woke up with a wet pajama pants once, this might not sound all that impressive but believe me it is, this kid is a hosepipe!

I love that he can pull it up himself which is great as he wants to do everything himself these days, also, we are in the midst of potty training season and we can use all the help we can get. Even though he often asks to use the toilet it’s not going too great…

I do self…

This is what my cheeky 2-year-old has to say about potty training:
– It’s okay mommy you can use the toilet, I pee here (points at nappy)
– Why you don’t just change my bum?
– My poo doesn’t work in a toilet.
–  (after wearing a pair of cotton underpants for a while he runs up to me with a disposable nappy he found) mommy see I found a nappy for you. Now don’t have to wear underpants.
– (loudly at the tills pointing at someone else’s trolley with toilet paper) Look mommy that is to wipe your bum.
– (getting dressed in the morning) No underpants and toilets today hey.
– (loudly at a party) I’m going to poo here *points to nappy* you must change my bum bum so I can go play

I don’t know with this kid, what I do know is that #PampersSA have given me 5 packs of nappies to give away to readers 🙂

So if you are in SA and want to give them a try,  ENTER!!!!

When you fall pregnant before your friend does…

Pregnancy Awareness Week – 10-16 February 2015
You tell those closest to you, but then there’s that friend or couple. The one you’ve spent so many months with helping mop up her tears, feeding her chocolate and telling her that next month will be her month.
So how do you tell someone you care so much about that you’ve ‘jumped the queue’? That you’re pregnant but she remains without her much desired baby?
For your friends or family members that are battling with infertility, your pregnancy announcement may be a painful blow to them. When someone is dealing with infertility, every pregnancy announcement reminds them of what they are unable to have.
Some couples that have been trying for a baby for longer than its taken other couples to create an entire family – and it can feel very unfair. Many men and women feel completely isolated or somewhat left behind as their friends move into the family phase of their lives.
“As a company that produces Prelox, a supplement for male infertility, we have an acute understanding of the fact that infertility is a great life crisis that needs to be addressed with kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness.” says Edward Haefele, Brand Manager at Lamelle Pharma.
He continues, “ Given this scenario among your friends, we advise that you take a little time to consider how to tell those friends about your pregnancy. We have thought of some useful hints to help you break the happy news to your friends while still being sensitive to their emotions.”
1.           Let your friends be the first to know.
Dont make a make a broad announcement on social media  or in front of a big group of friends or family before you let them in on your secret.. This will enable your friends to process their emotions first and not feel blindsided or unprepared for the announcement in a public setting.
     2.       Don’t hide it from your friends in an effort to protect them.
If your friend finds out that youve kept it from her, she wont feel protected; she may feel betrayed.
     3.       Be very gentle when you tell your friends.
You might even tell her over the phone or in an email so she can react the way she needs to. This will help her tofeel what she needs to first. This is not about you or her not being happy for you, so try not to be upset. Understand that your pregnancy reminds her of her own loss.
     4.       Dont put pressure on your friends. If they don’t call you back or talk to you for a week or so, just check in with her via email or text. Give them a little time and space.
     5.       Dont focus purely on babies when you talk to her.
Its understandable that it is the  center of your world right now and without a doubt your friends are happy for you, but taking about babies 24/7 only serves as a constant reminder of their own battles. If your friends tell you that they wants to know and wants to talk about it with you then by all means, do it. Let her take the lead in how much or how little she wants to know.
     6.       Be patient and kind.
Just be patient, kind, understanding and open. Tell them that you are there for them and remember to do nothing more than just listen. Whatever you do, dont try to give advice. Women who are dealing with infertility know way more about getting pregnant than women who get pregnant after 1-6 months of trying.
7.  Invite them to the Baby Shower But Give them an Easy Out
A mistake some often make is not inviting their friend or relative to the baby shower. It’s true that baby showers are often difficult for the them, but not being invited is also painful. Instead, invite them, but be clear that you understand if she’d rather not attend or wants give a gift at a later time.

Here is one of the articles from this issue:

UNDER MY SKIN
10 EVERYDAY THINGS THAT ARE BAD FOR YOUR SKIN

1. Sleeping with make-up on
Apart from the chemicals and potential allergens in some make-up brands, not washing it off before bed
has devastating effects, such as clogging pores, disrupting natural repair and shedding (renewal), and
drying out skin, leading to accelerated breakdown of collagen and elastin and even oxidative stress.
Trust us: wash your face, every night.

2. Drinking – and eating – too little water
Without water, skin dehydrates, gets damaged and ages quickly. Every cell in your body needs water to
metabolise normally, which is why the eight glasses a day rule is one to live by. But there also seems to
be some eating more water-rich foods purported better water absorption.

3. Squeezing pimples
Trying to pop a pimple can do more harm than good: you could push dirt and bacteria deeper into the
pores, and you may inflame and damage the subcutaneous follicle and skin tissue leading to more
inflammation, bleeding and even scarring. Often, this only leads to more breakouts.

4. Skipping meals – the wrong way
Whether you’re just too busy or trying to lose weight, note that experts say skipping meals messes with
your metabolism. There is some evidence suggesting controlled restrictive eating on alternate days
holds overall health benefits. But note that your skin needs those
essential nutrients and vitamins from food, so skip with caution.

5. Your phone and dirty sunglasses
Anything that comes in contact with your face can leave dangerous bacteria and environmental
pollutants behind. And of course you hold your phone right on your cheek, and your glasses rest on the
delicate spots just under your eyes and on the bridge of your nose. So, please, carry some antibacterial
wipes and keep these items clean.

6. Hair products on your skin
It’s no secret that products such as dye and hair spray contain dangerous chemicals. That’s why you
shouldn’t ingest them. But the alcohols and lacquers in hair products, including skin penetrators such as
propylene glycol, may dry out your skin and wreak havoc over time. Cover the skin on your face and
neck with a clean towel when you apply or spray.

7. Excessive chlorine
Mind the pool water: chlorine tends to react with the water in your body to form damaging acids (free
radicals), even when absorbed through skin – hence the dry, patchy skin after loads of swimming. Have
a soapy shower after your swim and follow up with your antioxidant-rich moisturiser every time.

8. Over-plucking your eyebrows
Naturally, ripping a hair out of the follicle damages the skin a little. But it’s the repeated pinching and
pulling on such delicate skin that could harm collagen and elastin fibres. For proper
brow plucking, do it after a warm bath or shower, hold the surrounding
skin tight with your fingers and gently pull (don’t pluck) in the direction the hair naturally grows.

9. Passive smoking
Yes, even if you don’t smoke, those smoking around you are contributing to your skin ageing. Cigarette
smoke is known for causing poor blood-flow in skin, as well as stimulating the production of MMP
enzymes that destroy elastin and collagen.

10. Dirty make-up brushes
These are a breeding ground for bacteria. They collect dead skin cells, oils, dirt and old make-up residue,
and then you reapply it to your face every day. Try to brush yours after each use on a damp cloth and let
it dry properly before storing. Then, wash them with a product for this purpose or anti-bacterial solution
at least twice a month.

Renokin can give you a fuller head of hair. . .

It is no secret that God was not skimping when if came to giving me hair. I have tons of the stuff… Oh so much hair so much hair… I used to tease that it was a case of quantity over quality, hehe.
A healthy head of hair is a blessing though so I’m actually quite lucky.

Not everyone is that lucky though. Hair loss and thinning hair is a real problem that affects many so it’s pretty great when a product like this comes along…

RENOKIN HAIR RANGE FOR LUXURIOUS HAIR

Hair is an extension of skin and there exists many similarities between the management of hair and the management of skin. It is for this reason that Lamelle Research Laboratories has introduced a product range that encourages hair growth, stops hair loss and stimulates the skins ability to create new hair follicles.
On average, people shed 50 to 100 hairs per day and an average scalp has about 100 000 hairs. Gradual thinning is a normal process of ageing however, hair loss may lead to baldness when the rate of shedding exceeds the rate of re-growth, when new hair is thinner than the hair shed or when hair is shed in patches.
The Renokin Hair Revitalizing program contains three biomimetic peptides which inhibit hair loss, prevents stress induced hair cell death as well as activate the signal for hair growth. In addition, Renokin Hair Revitalizing program contains two vitamins which provides nutrition and enables increased blood flow to the scalp resulting on the formation of healthy hair. Lastly, Renokin Hair Revitalizing program contains five natural plant extracts which aid in preventing hair loss as well as strengthening the hair follicles, thereby providing a comprehensive hair revitalizing program.
The Renokin Hair Revitalizing program consists of:
Renokin Hair Revitalizing Shampoo 150 ml
Renokin Hair Revitalizing Conditioner 110 ml
           Hair Revitalizing Solution 60 ml

The benefits of Renokin Hair Revitalizing program
Can be used in both men and women.
           Clinically proven active ingredients.
Applicable to any type of hair loss.
Innovative skin penetration technology of active ingredients into the scalp.
Can be applied to coloured hair.
Can be used as maintenance for healthy hair. New follicle development takes time to occur.
To be used for 3 months before visible results are evident.

Using the Renokin treatment program
Wet hair thoroughly, gently lather shampoo throughout hair and scalp – massaging scalp for 15 seconds.
Leave on the hair for 30 seconds and then rinse out.
After shampooing, apply conditioner to wet hair and massage gently.
           Rinse well.

Movember: Not just about the stash…

Movember is the month dedicated to testicular cancer awareness – we take a look at what testicular cancer is all about, how it can potentially affect fertility in males and the various options available to men who have won the battle against this disease.

What is testicular cancer?
A type of cancer that occurs in men’s testicles
Young men are most at risk
Early diagnosis can save your life.

Even though testicular cancer is not very common, it is a serious concern for young men. It is the most common cancer among men aged 2034. But if testicular cancer is found and treated early, it is usually curable, but the question is – how does testicular cancer and it’s treatment affect your ability to father a child?

Intensive chemotherapy treatments may lengthen the process, but many testicular cancer survivors have fathered children naturally. Most men with testicular cancer who were fertile prior to being diagnosed are able to father children after treatment. The biggest risk to fertility is chemotherapy but research shows thatapproximately 7 out of 10 (70%) are able to father children.
Other factors:
If your treatment for testicular cancer does cause permanent infertility, you will no longer be able to father a child. This can be very hard to accept if you were hoping to have children. You and your partner should discuss this possibility with your doctor before you start treatment. You should be offered the opportunity of sperm banking before starting treatment if you are concerned about your future fertility.
Sometimes the lymph glands in your abdomen need to be surgically removed , especially if they are still enlarged after radiotherapy or chemotherapy. This can affect your fertility because the operation can cause retrograde ejaculation. New techniques in surgery are helping to reduce this problem.
Although this surgery may mean you cannot father a child, it has no physical effect on your ability to have an erection or an orgasm.
Chemotherapycan cause temporary infertility in most men with testicular cancer. In some men, fertility may not recover, particularly in those who have had very high doses of chemotherapy. Talk to your doctor if you are worried about whether chemotherapy will affect your fertility. You can have tests to see if your fertility has gone back to normal and your doctor can discuss this with you and your partner while advising you regarding a fertility supplement such as Prelox® to encourage normal and improved sperm production.
The multiple benefits of Prelox® include:
Increase in the anti oxidative capacity of plasma.
Stimulates the activity of e-NOS (endothelial nitric oxide synthetase).
In combination with L-Arginine (Prelox®) increases e-NOS in spermatozoa.
An increase in spermatozoa NO (Nitric Oxide) increases sperm motility and human sperm capacitance.
Some men with testicular cancer have a low sperm count prior to treatment. In these men successful treatment with chemotherapy can result in  their sperm count returning to a more normal level.
Your doctor may offer you the opportunity to save some semen before treatment begins. If your sperm is suitable and you want to store some for the future, you need to give 2 or 3 semen samples over a period of a few days at a fertility clinic. The samples are frozen and stored by the hospital until you are 55. If you and your partner want to have a child in the future, the samples are thawed and used in conduction with fertility treatment.
Counselling for your and your partner may be offered at the fertility clinic before you have sperm banking. You will also need to sign a consent form that states how you want your sperm to be used. You will have blood tests to check for any illnesses or infections, such as HIV or hepatitis.
If the cancer has spread and you need to start your chemotherapy right away due to life threatening concerns, your doctor may advise against sperm banking because it may  delay the start of your cancer treatment.
You may be able to benefit from sperm banking even if your sperm count is low. It is quite common for men with testicular cancer to have a low sperm count.. When you want to use the sperm, the sample is thawed and the surviving sperm are used to fertilise your partner’s egg. In order to improve your sperm count prior to sperm banking, talk to your doctor about a a fertility supplement such as Prelox® which can increase your sperm count and improve the quality of your sperm sample.
The fertilised egg is then implanted in the womb to grow naturally. This is the same as the test tube baby technique. Doctors can’t guarantee that it will work for you. Some sperm die when the sample is thawed. And the test tube technique doesn’t always work first time, thus it is important to have the highest quality sperm sample that you can manage.
