Tuesdays are Shoesdays-Design diva Este van der Merwe

Today’s shoe day diva is a local designer and a REALLY nice girl Este van der Merwe she featured at SAFW last year with her forbidden fable range and this year went back to introduce Hoiden a design brand she started with friend Marjorie Erasmus.
1. You are: Esté van der Merwe, designer and owner of the clothing label, Hoiden.
2. How many pairs of shoes do you own? Well, I can’t really say because I live with my two sisters and we are all the same shoe size and not really selfish (sometimes) when it comes to sharing our clothes or our shoes. But in my closet alone, there are about 20 pairs.
3. Why do you think a great pair of shoes has such an effect on women? I know why women love living through the aches and pains of high heels- that’s easy. Number 1: High heels tend to give the aesthetic illusion of longer, more slender and more toned legs. Number 2: Did you REALLY expect me to give you a better reason than that??!
4. Which shoe are you still searching for? I’m waiting (and praying) for a Jimmy Choo in my size (size 3 by-the-way… can you say mission impossible?!) to pop up on Bid or Buy. J
5. Which shoe can’t you believe you actually wore?  I always hated the fact that in high school we all had to look the same, so on Wednesdays we had the sport days and we were all allowed to wear trainers and our sports uniforms to school. I saw this as an opportunity to be different because they couldn’t exactly force everyone to wear the exact same trainers. So I bought these navy blue Nikes. They looked just like the normal Nikes except for the fact that it didn’t have laces in the front but a zip! Yes, a big bulky black zip attached to some lycra in the centre of the shoe. When I look at them now, I feel so embarrassed but back then I felt like the coolest kid on the block because of all the attention I got. Now I know why. Lol
6. Fav shoe/style quote. If the shoe doesn’t fit, must we change the foot? “ – Gloria Steinem
“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe. Muhammad Ali

My Black lace-up hard leather high heel Prato boots.
They are my Johnny Depp’s – So rock ‘n roll, so edgy and you can wear them with just about anything. They are the perfect accessory to make a good girl summer frilly dress a little more fearless and extreme. They’re sexy, and no one can resist these bad boys.

My black golden studded gladiator heels.
I immediately fell in love when I was passing by the shoe store in Mosselbay and saw them. I knew I couldn’t really afford them at that moment but I just desperately needed them with all my heart. You can definitely say it was a crush, and they just peacefully ignored me and pretended that I didn’t even exist -which just made them so much more desirable. In the end I couldn’t resist and I bought them the very next day.

My grey pumps with a cute lace bow.
If they were human and male, they would’ve definitely classified as the sweet, romantic type. The perfect shoes that make you feel like a real lady. They are just comfortable, you smile every time you look at them and they’re the perfect excuse to act like a princess because they make you feel like one. They just love spoiling my feet with a tad of femininity.

My brown flat heeled boots.

They’re the shoes that would never let me down. They are rugged, manly, strong, but for some reason
this rough rogue will have you relishing in your femininity like no other. Why? There is something about raw masculinity that brings out the damsel in all of us. Wearing them will do one of two things: make you squeal with delight or appreciate your ability and right to wear the pants sometimes

– My suede high heel ankle boots.
My ankle boots are my personal favourite out of the five. They’re not the best looking though, and for a night out I would never consider them when I open my closet at first. Ill always have a look at “the menu” but for some reason in the end I always pick them. They’re comfortable, they can be dressed up or down and they’re simple, sleek, elegant but still very relaxed.
So…  Who needs men when you can have shoes, right?!!!!  😉
