This morning I was reminded of something my mom once said :

“You need to let go of the life you have planned for yourself before you can accept the life God has planned for you.” She told me this after a tough break-up years ago and said that often God is trying to give you something or show you something, but you are so busy planning and scheming, you tend to get in the way of your own happiness – Good to remember
