Story book crafts: Mad hats, a kid could make
Today’s story book craft is Alice in Wonderland and it follows on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Cinderella, I decided to turn it into a “mom and me” activity so Aidan and I made hats for a mad hatter party… It is a super easy craft, perfect for a craft party or school project, Aidan did his with minimal help and he is only two… it’s THAT easy
The final product; mine is super girly and Aidan’s used to have have eyes, because I’m told it’s a monster hat |
What you need… a paper plate, a paper glass, paper and things to decorate with (that is Aidan’s craft box) |
Cut the paper plate smaller to act as a brim |
Stick cup onto plate…Aidan is using press stick to do it, tape is easier, but he can’t handle that yet |
You will have this, |
Cover cup and plate with coloured paper (you can use material if you need this hat to be seen at a adult party or so) |
Tie paper down until you end up with this (For a kids craft party you can do all the steps until here yourself |
Our pre-decorated hats |
DECORATE! Aidan used crayons and stickers, I used paper doilies and washi tape |
Final product, how adorable π |
This is a super easy craft to do with your kids pop over to see what the other bloggers did…
R200 for four…braai away
When Braaiboy announced his blogger challenge I was one of those first in line!!! Pick Me Pick Me oh braai master, hehehe.
The thing is I’m known for many things, my cooking is not one of those. The dangers of having a husband who loves cooking, people are so quick to say I’m lazy or incapable when truth be told, I’m just lucky, hehehe.
When I do cook, it’s light lunches and salads and that sort of thing (The twice a week cleaning lady says she doesn’t “get” my green cooking and why don’t we have instant coffee, proper tea or real sugar in this house … anywho…)
So this is my chance to show that I can make actual meals, and on the fire nogal and it’s man size so my dad can stop telling people I’m more of a “first course chef”… (Okay Rob helped alottile hehe)
With our R200 we bought the following which cost us R197.60
So what did I make? (with Rob’s help)
Pear and Apricot Beef sosaties (R74.98)
Kudu wors spirals (R21.70)
Grilled Butternut (R16.99)
Jacket Potato, potato salad (R25.72)
Spar Braai Rolls (R20.99)
Drumsticks (R25.08)
Playing the role of interior designer…
I love decor and I love being challenged so when the people over at US based modani furniture asked me to do a mock-up of a lounge I jumped at the chance π
I decided to go for a dream lounge, as it’s international make your dream come true day and as I have a toddler and this much white and grey is currently JUST A DREAM… sooooo what do you think π
Stylist for the day with Weddington Way
When the people over at Weddington Way asked me to try my hand at playing stylist I jumped at the chance. Who doesn’t love playing dress up?
The challenge was creating a New Yearβs Eve bridesmaid look using one of their dresses, and since I will be a bridesmaid early next year it was right up my ally… I chose their Elizabeth bridesmaid dress and went for a subtle pin-up look. I believe that being part of a wedding is one of the few occasions you can “dress up” so I just had to add some whimsy with lace booties and a petticoat (not much call for it in my everyday life)
Dress: The dress is cute and flattering and even features pockets for your tissues (perfect if you are the crying at wedding type)
Necklace: I’m not usually one for strapless, so this necklace is perfect; coverage with a touch of old hollywood glamour
Earrings and bracelet: With a necklace that is that striking I opted to keep the other accessories minimalistic
Nails: This grey manicure is EVERYTHING
Petticoat: Adds whimsy and flare
Boots: I thought why not be a little different so instead of the obvious choice of strappy sandals I opted for lace booties
Hair and make-up: I went for a subtle pin-up look that is pretty and not overwhelming
What do you think?

Challenge Accepted…My Summer List
So I was tagged…It’s pretty awesome that I got tagged by a blogger I love, Stiletto Mom in THIS post. I never liked tag much as a kid…hide and seek is much better because you can find a great hiding spot and get some reading done…or let your little cousins go hide and take forever to find them when they annoy you π
But this kind of tag is fun so here goes:
This is all about Summer, so it should be noted that I’m more of a Winter/Autumn kinda girl
What is your favourite thing about Summer?
Family outings and long days to braai and play games and ( like everyone who grew up near the coast) THE BEACH BABY!!!
This was last year…can’t wait for this year!!! |
Do you have a favourite Summer drink?
Lemonade for when I’m good |
Sangria for when I’m bad |
We are Jeffrey’s Bay people π |
Favourite make-up look for Summer?
Bronzer because the sun tends to make me look very dirty and in need of shimmer it’s weird but true |
Dresses or skirts?
Both make me feel sweaty, I’m a shorts kinda girl |
Pumps π |
I don’t know if this is up or down, but I tend to braid my hair in summer because it’s so much easier to deal |
Neither I’m not a make-uppy girl, but just booked to get the lashes again |
Favourite perfume for Summer?
Cause I’m Hoity Toity like that |
Last but not least, favourite music for Summer
