Restoring my skin with Rain Africa

So Rain Africa has come to town (Walmer Park Shopping Centre to be exact) and I’m ridiculously excited, so excited I decided to try out three of their moisturisers to see if their handmade products made using natural ingredients with African origins could be the answer to my insanely dry skin.

When I say insanely dry I’m talking, chalkboard ashy. Winter really did a number on me, I have been looking into spa treatments in lieu of a skin transplant.

But before I could get around to it Rain Africa opened in Port Elizabeth and generously became sponsors of #ECMeetup. I had heard amazing things about them up to this point…Like:

As you know – through my various complaints – I’ve been going through a tough time lately. The thing that has kept me grounded is some amazing friends. Friends who I can lean on and vent to when adulting becomes a little hard.

With this in mind I decided to give one of my blog readers the chance to spoil herself and a friend/family member who has been on her side. Continue reading

Cheapy things I love

Have you seen this egg timer it’s awesome omw it’s awesome so awesome I saw it at @home first but I think it was round about R300 and I thought I don’t eat hard boiled eggs nearly enough to warrant the price. WHAT?! I could buy shoes with that. Then I saw Crazy Store had it for R22 and I was like, “surely this can’t be the same thing”, but I bought it anyway because I like novelties… but the thing is it’s not just a novelty, it really works. Rob and I like our eggs worlds apart, he likes his so hard it’s blue and I like to dip toast in mine. So now I just pop this in the water with the eggs and when it changes colour to the soft mark I take mine out and when it changes at the hard mark I take out his. AWESOME!!!

Everlid containers have changed my world, the thing is we go through containers like crazy, honestly we keep loosing lids, It drives me batty. With these you can’t lose the lids, they are dishwasher and microwave safe and you can even freeze them… Confession I thought all containers were freezable but they aren’t, they shatter , we often cook ahead for the week and I have learnt this the hard way. At R180 for 11 it works out to like R17 each which is a BARGAIN!!! I love everlid containers.

Satiskin bubble bath is a shopping list must have for us, at R40something for 2 litres you can’t go wrong, I use organic baby soap for Aidan and although it’s good for his skin it’s not big on bubbles. Aidan is big on bubbles. I decant the Satiskin into a smaller bottle for him and because it’s not pricey it doesn’t break my heart when he spills while “doing it self” the smell is yummy and it makes a crazy amount of bubbles so I’m sold…

Have you tried the hug-a-mug range? I’m a huge fan, nom nom nom…it’s around 102cals a cup so it’s not exactly guilt free but it’s so awesome, the smell and the comfort level is soooooo high I could just bath in a cup… that is saying a lot as I don’t like baths, I find it too much like I’m making Eleanor soup. The price is higher than the other instant coffees at around R50 a box but seriously that is still like R5 a cup which is insanely cheap. Go to a coffee shop with a R5 and you can’t even pay your car guard, I’m just saying , looove hug a mug, I hug you my mug.

Woolies is singlehandedly sabotaging my get skinny efforts! I wonder if I could sue them like those Americans who sued Mc Donalds? I would ask for payment in snacks though (whaaaaat) These are my new favourites  Chocolate brownies topped with butter icing, pecan nuts and choc drizzle. Yes you read that correctly. It’s like a cupcake but instead of the cake part they used brownie. I DIE!!! They are tiny and are like 120cals each so this is pure indulgence they go for around R36 for 6 so you can get into a sugar coma quite cheaply…omw so good!!!

Canderel chocolate bunnies, work for birthdays too

We all know by now that I’m not supposed to be having sugar 🙁 but I loooove chocolate…
Canderel was kind enough to give me a hamper of treats so I don’t have to sit out this Easter… and you know what! the chocolate is ACTUALLY quite nice, seriously I prefer it to sugary brands, I kid you not, the chocolate has a great texture and they even have different flavours…Rob says it’s cause my body knows I’m not allowed others, but I beg too differ and I caught him eating like half a slab… whose body knows what now buddy?

They shared this great recipe for Easter lollies and I thought, hey why not make for my birthday, soooo I did… NOM NOM NOM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME
Dark chocolate bow see, I got all creative
Here is their recipe (I made 3 bunnies with a slab and a half of choc though)

Serves: Makes 4 large lollies

Ingredients:

  • 3 x 85g Canderel milk chocolate slabs
  • Clear plastic chocolate egg mould (or any other shape you fancy) with 4 compartments and spaces for sticks
  • 4 plastic or wooden lollipop sticks
  • Glitter for dusting (optional)

Method:

  1. Make sure the mould is clean and dry before starting. Bring two cups of water to the boil in a large pot. Place a smaller pot or bowl over the larger one. Break the Canderel milk chocolate into pieces and place in the small bowl. Turn the heat down to a simmer and gently melt the chocolate, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
  2. Place the moulds on a hard, flat surface and pour in the melted chocolate. Gently tap the mould on the hard surface to get rid of any air bubbles.
  3. Insert the stick at an angle about 3cm into the chocolate, ensuring that it’s well covered. Press the stick down flat in the stick channel, then place the mould in the fridge to set. When set, the chocolate will start coming away from the mould and no longer look wet.
  4. Once completely set, remove the chocolates from the moulds. Sprinkle over some glitter and store in an airtight container in a cool dark place (not the fridge).
Watch out for more canderel inspired recipes 🙂
