Make-up must have… tutorial

Sometimes when you are not feeling your best (me the last couple of days) it helps to still try and look your best (take your own advice Eleanor!) my gran always believed that looking good was step one in feeling good, so it’s time to fake it till I feel it 😉

Today Ranique gives some advise on how to put your game face on… and what products you will need to make that face a pretty one, hehehe

As the New Year starts its a good time to check your make-up bag/kit…
You might have a few items that needs to be tossed away.
Yes make-up also has a expiry date!
So how do know how long you’ve had your favourite lip gloss?
If you don’t remember, you need to estimate and if you cant estimate, then try to check if your make-up smells funny or funky or off.
That’s usually also a cue for make-up to find a new home in the bin.

So now that you might have less make-up…
It’s time to get some new things!
But what to buy?
Now if you’re replacing your make-up,  your brushes should probably also make it’s way to the bin.
And this time you’re going to get exactly what you need.
There are 8 brushes you need to apply your make-up with ease.

Now that you have new brushes, you need fabulous make-up to match.
Clicks and Dischem has this amazing “mini kit” with everything you need!

It contains EVERYTHING you need!
Mascara
Eyeliner
Gloss
Blush
Eyeshadow

Now if you’re someone who doesn’t wear make-up everyday,  this “mini kit” is a goid start.
You have 10 eyeshadow colour options to play around with.
2 blush options.
It retails at R279,99.
So it’s a real good saving too.
Being 6 months into motherhood has thought me to wear make-up the simple way.
Like Ella says, “Gloss and go!”
Sometimes I put in real effort and go all out with my make-up,  because I need to “carry my work” every now and then.
But other days it has to be “gloss and go!”
What’s so nice about this “mini kit” is that it has the gloss for simple days and the colour tòo for vava voom days!
But don’t fret if you’re a “Gloss and go!” girl, it’s simple…
The beauty lies in the simplicity.

You’ve got work to do….
Go chuck away the old and get with the new… It’s a fabulous way to start the New Year!
Now go shopping!

Purple eye tutorial

FROM LOVELY RANIQUE:

So someone asked me to do something specific for this week…
The daring Purple eye!

You see the purple eye for many would be a bit scary, because one wrong move and you could easily look like someone who just walked out of a bar and got knocked in the eye!

No that’s not what we want…
So today I decided to add some spunk to a plain pastel lilac eye.

It’s easy… and cheap!
I picked up this “Colours” Trio Shadow at Foshini for R20!

Here are the steps:

Step 1:
Line the eyelid with a purple kajal pencil

Step 2:
Use your angled eyeshadow brush to apply purple shadow no#1

Step 3:
Blend purple shadow no#2 over half of the eyelid

Step 4:
Use your angled brush to apply shadow no#1 under your lower lash

Step 5:
Apply your matt lilac shadow over the lid in the crease of your eye

Step 6:
Apply black eye liner and mascara

And there you go!
This is easy to achieve with any other colour.

Natural look tutorial by Ranique

Happy Friday my peaches!

Welcome to Face-Friday…

Today I decided to work on some soft pretty peach make-up.

Now for many of us peach, orange and coral lipsticks,  blushes and eyeshadows are the colours on your palette that remains unused or simply gets tossed away in the bin…
Either because you think it’s not your colour or because you don’t have the guts to try it out!

But truth be told, those colours could easily give you a quick “pick me up” look.
You see peach is such a fresh and clean colour and works well in daytime, because it adds a natural sparkle to any girls face.

So here we go, let’s start!

4 Steps to create your soft peachy sexy eyes.

Step 1:
Prep the brow and lid

Step 2:
Use your liner as a guide to see how far you want to “pull-out” your liner to create a cat eye.

Step 3:
OutLine with black liner

Step 4:
Brush a matte/shimmer peach eyeshadow on your lid and blend upward, above the crease.

Now for the lips and blush…

Peach blush is a great way to accentuate your cheekbones and give your complexion a natural, glowing look.

Step 5:
Apply a light layer of peach blush to the apples of your cheeks. Not sure which peach is the perfect one for your skin tone? If you’re cooler skin toned, you should opt for a soft pinky peach shade while warmer tones should go for a slightly brighter peach with coral/orange tones.

Step 6:
Line your lips with a nude or invisible lip pencil, and swipe on a light peach hue.
And the look is complete …

This is a great look to rock on a beach day!

Product List:
mascara – AVON Super Extend in “black”

Eyeliner – AVON glimmerstick in “black”

Blush – CATRICE in “love&peach”

Eyeshadow – CATRICE “720 Papaya Don’t Preach”

Lipliner – CATRICE Kohl Kajal “120 We found Nemo”

Lipstick – AVON colortrend “Flirt”

Till next week!

Blue eye tutorial (Guest Post)

Ranique shows how to add a pop of colour to your make-up routine without looking like an extra from a Drag Show 🙂

In a world that’s dull and grey…
Colour! Colour and more colour is the one thing that will always stay!

So this week we’re playing with some eye-pop-make-up!
I love colour and and luckily for me, for the Summer of 2014, colour shadow and liners are one of your SIX HOTTEST Summer 2014 beauty trends in the make-up world… So you might want to toss away that dull colour shadow palette and pop over to the bright side of life…

Now I know it could be overwhelming doing your own make-up and playing with colour, I mean the last thing you want is for people to stare and think
“Oh my… she must have woken up in the 80s this morning …”

Noooo that’s not what I mean with colour …

Here i played with 3 make-up items!
Yes 3!
A eyeliner AVON
A trio shadow RALO
A mascara ESSENCE

With a few easy steps you can look fabulous this coming Summer.

Step 1:
Prep Brow and Lid

Step 2:
Outline with black eyeliner

Step 3:
Apply 1st green shadow over half the lid

Step 4:
Apply 2nd green shadow and blend towards the inner corner of your eye

Step 5:
Use your index finger to apply and blend the blue shadow over the center of the lid

Step 6:
Define the lower lash with liner

Step 7:

A closer look…

There you have it!

3 items!
1 fabulous Summer 2014 look!

Until next week!

Face Friday, Make-up tips continue

Earlier this year my fabulous make-up artist friend Chantal helped me with some make-up tutorials. She was awesome, but as a mother to a very new newborn she is on hiatus from the tutorial business. But lucky for me and you, I know lots of fabulous women (birds of a feather you know, hehehe, yes I complemented myself) and my friend Ranique has agreed to do some summer tutorials.
I’m very interested in make-up and how it can transform you, but I need loads of help with technique. If you are like me look out for the next couple of Fridays where Ranique who blogs over HERE will teach us a few things.

Ranique is one of those people who needs to be doing a million things to stay sane, she presents (tv and radio) produces, creates and goodness knows what else…but I’ll let the lady tell you that herself:

No matter what they say…
Colour, Comedy and Creativity is right here to stay!

You see, in a world that’s dull and grey, this big-mouth girl will share the above with you all the way.

And this big-mouth girl?
Who is she?

I am an Award Winning Performer, working as Freelance Publicist in Nelson Mandela Bay.
My great love for the performing arts has allowed me to manage various Theatre Productions and play “right-hand” to some SA’s top Comedians.
I try to play
“Entrepreneur-Entrepreneur” every now and then and it works!
I have been self employed for as long as I can remember and also worked as Radio & TV Presenter for community Radio Stations Kingfisher FM and Bay FM as well as Bay TV.
I am a proud wife to Kevin and insanely in love Mom to baby Adam.
A make-up lover and Creativity/DIY junky

Within polishing my acting craft at Stage World Theatre School, I came across the “Stage Make-up” class and fell in love with the drama that colour, line, definition and shape creates.
I mean you can look like a person now and within minutes be transformed into a cat or a mouse or a monster…
The creativity with make-up is endless!
After doing kiddies parties for a few years, I just one day decided that  I have had enough and I am tired of paining little faces.
So I decided to move onto the bold and dazzling world of make-up for ladies for special occasions and weddings etc.

And 30 odd weddings later…the rest as they say is history!

I LOVE make-up!
I love colour on my face and I love being creative with make-up but I also try to keep it simple.
As a new Mom, I try to throw on the very basic eye-liner, mascara and lip gloss whenever I go somewhere.
But now and then one has to add some colour to pop the eye or lip or even just to make your eyes seem open or bigger…
(as in my case as a new Mom.)

So for the next few weeks I will be sharing easy make-up tips and tutorials with you!

They call me Unique Ranique!
Pleased to meet you!

Autumn trend . . . Dark lips

Today’s make-up tip courtesy of Chantel:

As we dress a little bit warmer & cover up,our make up looks also change with the seasons & fashion trends. So,today I’ll be showing you ladies 1 of the Autumn/Winter make up trends.

Step1

Start off with your perfect canvas, meaning foundation, concealer, powder.Don’t change your shade of foundation as yet because our South African sun is still shining bright(especially in Cape Town)but as we go into the colder months your complexion will change to & a lighter shade of foundation is needed.

Step2

This look requires a simple single colour eye shadow in either a shimmery nude shade or a matte neutral shade.Apply this from lashline up,till under the brow area. You can add a liquid liner cat eye if you want more drama but then that’s all you need & off course a double dose of mascara!

Step3

Dark lips are the biggest Autumn/Winter trend,so ladies, its time to be adventurous!Apply as I’ve showed in my previous pictorial of how to apply the red lipstick. Apply foundation, layer powder then the lipstick. Et voila!

Finish your look with a darker bronzer or plum colour blusher.Another tip:If your lip colour is dark match your blusher in the same colour pallet or dab a little bit of the lipstick on the apple of your cheeks then apply your bronzer. Do that only if you need too. Yep,I’m going oldschool!

Darker shade lipsticks doesn’t mean black or meaning go Goth unless you want that look.It can look sexy!If you are less adventurous,go light Plum,Maroon,Berry shades or deep red. This trend is not restricted to complexion colour, full lips, thin lips, its for every women who wants to explore the vivacious vixen she is. Have an adventurous, expedition with your make up this weekend… Next week, look forward to another Autumn trend! Mwah
