Boss tips from tech guru Thuli Hlongwane

So I got some #bosslady tips from Thuli Hlongwane to share with you guys. This Cape-Town based entrepreneur who currently serves as Managing Director of Prim-U has kindly agreed to share some tips with me in my hour of “what next” need.

For the past few years, I’ve been self-employed, a freelancer, a pen prostitute (kinda joking). It’s been an interesting journey and as I find myself adjusting my business goals these tips come in super handy:

‘The Little Generosity Shop’ by Cadbury and other ways to teach your child about charity

When I heard that “The Little Generosity Shop” would be visiting Port Elizabeth (as part of their seven-stop “tour”) I knew I just had to share the initiative with my fellow Nelson Mandela Bayers (that’s not a thing, but let’s pretend, shall we). Because from what I’ve seen we have big hearts around these parts and are super willing to give.

So what is “The Little Generosity shop”? Well it’s Cadbury’s way of shedding light on the plight of South Africa’s orphaned children. ‘The Little Generosity Shop’ gives us the chance to make a difference in the lives of as many children as possible by collecting toys, books and games – in exchange for a Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. How Arendsvlei’s Melissa de Vries keeps her curls popping

Earlier this week I chatted to Melissa de Vries – yes the dance teacher on Arendsvlei on KykNet. We got all serious about how she deals with self-doubt and how she stays grounded while spending so much of her life on stage or infront of a camera.

How TV personality Melissa de Vries deals with self-doubt

As I grow older I realise most people deal with self-doubt, even Melissa de Vries – top of her game, presenter, actress, dancer – type people. Melissa is currently acting in the acclaimed local drama Arendsvlei on kykNET, she’s a hip hop MC, judge and dancer for local and international competitions and has competed on a global level herself, but even this “boskop beauty” doubts herself from time to time.

I chatted to her about what keeps her going and what has motivated her to go from the streets of Blackheath in Cape Town to the international stage.

How actress, model and DJ – Kietzn deals with anxiety

I got to chat to internationally-known Capetonian, Kietzn (Jeanné Kietzmann) and found out I had more in common with the Los Angeles-based actress, model, DJ and music producer than I ever would have thought.

Obviously we both have amazing lips, awesome wrist tattoos and a flair for the dramatic, but I would have never guessed that someone at the top of their game, someone who has been described as a Hollywood Star in the making, would be grappling with anxiety. I got her to share her “calm the heck down” tactics with us and it’s pretty refreshing.

Host an Oreo inspired games day

So this weekend we hosted an Oreo Cup games day. Granted the Oreo Cup is actually an online game where you play against the rest of the Oreo loving world and stand in line to win big prizes for your efforts. But we thought we would put our own spin on it and host a team building day.

So we rounded up bloggers from around Nelson Mandela Metro and got a little (a lottle) competitive… Here some tips to hosting your own Oreo inspired games day.
