Talking gut health with Euodia Samson

South African actress Euodia Samson, doesn’t make me think… healthy gut, nope she 100% makes me think Arendsvlei, Tussen Duiwels and more recently the Netflix original, Angeliena.

What many don’t know is that she is also a Tension and Trauma Release Therapist and an Integrated Wellness Consultant – with a passion for simple, delicious food that promotes health, in fact she has just released her first cookbook, Heal Your Gut.

The Cape Town-born actress released the book in a quest to promote healthy living and a zest for wellness for herself, her family and all of her supporters.

Finding herself facing an empty nest, after her sons moved out, the 52-year-old health and wellness ambassador started a daily Facebook Live show which has been very well received.

‘’It’s been absolutely amazing when you get inbox messages to say that for the first time in their life they feel they have control of their health and weight,’’ she said.

Many of her followers/viewers wanted the information she shares in a hard copy form, and the self-published book was born.

‘’Speaking about health and wellness, mind, body and soul, the platform was a perfect vehicle to reach more people and many said how they benefited. My followers started calling it “class” as they learn so much during each of the Facebook Live sessions. They then requested I put the low carb meals I cook during my life, in a book. At first, I was very reluctant as I thought one can Google low carb recipes if you want them. But “the class” insisted. I decided, if I was to do a cookbook, it would be more about the information on why your gut health is important for overall health and wellness than just recipes”, said Samson.

The cookbook delivers on its promise with detox plans, cleanses, meal plans and even food triggers and nutritional info. The book also touches on her personal journey.

“‘Having battled weight gain, health issues like pre-diabetes, hypertension and suffering from anxiety, I discovered the Banting/Keto lifestyle nine years ago. I believe that saved my life as I was definitely heading towards getting cancer as I already had a lump removed from my breast at 19 years old,” says Samson.

Samson believes that there’s a perception that eating healthy is only for the wealthy and that there is also much misinformation about what exactly healthy eating is. She prides herself on delivering recipes which are simple and basic with ingredients that you can get local and cheap

“So the ordinary South African living on a budget or even under the bread line needs to understand why they are sick in the first place and how to get healthy within 2 weeks if they follow the information given in this book,” she said.

The book is dedicated to her late parents.

Euodia Samson’s book retails at R260 each and can be ordered via Whatsapp on: 079 152 7478.
