St Francis Hospice Superhero fun run and carnival (WIN)

Can I interest you in joining St Francis Hospice and a group of Superheros for a run on the beach  front followed by a carnival? All for an amazing cause and a chance to beat a world record?

Next weekend, March 3, St Francis Hospice is launching its inaugural Superhero Fun Run/ Walk and Carnival at Happy Valley.

All participants are encouraged to wear a superhero outfit or item as the event will be entered on Recordsetter.com to officially own the record for the Largest Superhero Fun-Run. (There is also a prize for the best dressed).

Entry, including access to the Carnival, is R60 per adults, R30 per child and R150 for a family of four. Corporate packages, from R900, allow branding on the roadside and entry for five staff members, who each receive branded capes and masks.

The run/walk, of about 3 km, will start at Happy Valley at 07:00, proceed down Marine Drive and end off in Happy Valley again. This is where the Carnival will take place with  – performing artists, food stalls, jumping castle, face painting and various lawn games.  Entry to the Carnival is R20 for adults and R10 per child.

If you are not up to date with what St Francis Hospice does let me give you the sad yet empowering low-down. Hospice provides Home-Based Palliative Care monthly to some 200 terminally ill Cancer, HIV/AIDS and Motor Neurone Disease patients in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and Kouga region – at no cost to the patient.

They have a strong belief  that no one should be in pain or alone during their last days so Social Workers on the Hospice team not only provide comfort, but play a significant role in facilitating guardianship, fostering, grants and schooling for affected vulnerable children.

Hospice visits the families for a time after the patient has passed on to make sure they are coping and healing.
