An eco-friendly party on a budget…

I wanted to give my little eco-warrior an eco-friendly party this year… Within the time and money constraints I was facing. I mean I couldn’t have the party in a hut on a mountain, (where we hiked because of the carbon footprint) and ate only 100% organic produce picked by the light of the moon wearing only certified vegan flip-flops… Not yet anyway.

So how did a run of the mill, mom with a penchant for cheap imports make things reduced waste and vegetarian? Well….

How to make no-sew fabric loot bags

So what would make a sane human being make fabric  loot bags? I mean you can walk into any party store and buy plastic ones for a few bucks. You could use buckets or boxes and continue to live like someone with an actual job and an array of things to do.

BUT, I have set out to give Aidan a reduced waste eco-friendly party (as much as possible) and dammit that is what I am going to do.  So in come these reusable loot bags. They reduce waste considerably and act as a little take home too…WIN WIN, also they are no-sew so a third WIN for mommy.

Party in a box…DIY party for the DIY impaired

I got a Monkey Magic party in a box for my Aidan’s party and although it is a little like going against the glitter and glue in my veins to not DIY everything myself, it just felt like the best option.

Even with my love of all thing DIY,  the lack of time  has gotten the better of me lately, I just don’t have the time to do ANYTHING. Guys, I have been brushing my teeth in the shower to shave 5min off my morning routine. So when I found out about Tanya Bekker from Monkey Magic Functions’ Party in a Box option I jumped at the chance to work with her for Aidan’s party. Because this way I could still be hands on with regards to theme and where I want everything BUT I don’t have to physically cut and paste everything myself. I’m still making things like crayon thank you gifts though.

Christmas Crafts: Monster Wallet

I’m starting out my series of Christmas Crafts with a quick tutorial…how to make a monster wallet. Aidan really wants a wallet and since I figure he is going to lose it anyway (I know my kid) I decided to make one…it makes an ideal stocking filler, especially if you put a card/coins from game center in there.
